California Loses Jobs As Jobless Rate Declines Again
Source: CBS

SACRAMENTO, Calif. (AP) — The unemployment rate in California fell again in May, dropping to 11.7 percent, a state agency reported Friday, but the number of jobs in the state is also down.

It was the fifth month in a row with a lower jobless rate, even though a survey of 42,000 California businesses showed the state lost about 29,000 payroll jobs during May.

People who are not seeking work aren’t counted in the labor force, so the jobless rate can go down even with fewer jobs. Weak and spotty job growth has been common during the economic recovery from the recent recession.

I live in Pomona California..
I drove by the old GTE complex yesterday... Its been empty a while now..
It used to employ between 5 and ten thousand people... NO more...
Pomona used to be home for General Dynamics too... Its been gone along time now too...
All of the major Manufacturing is all gone here now... Never to return..

1. Feds pull the same BS with their unemployment rate calculation, too.
The only number that matters is total number of jobs.

3. The unemployment rate is an absolute joke. They don't count those who have given up.
And have lost their unemployment.

I have never been so disappointed to be an American citizen, and I'm employed.

The selection of W. in 2000 wrecked this country. And we need an FDR now, not what Obama is barely doing.

5. A strong public works program is what it's going to take to put people back to work. We could start...
with the construction of a high speed rail system connecting major cities. Seattle to Portland would be a damn good start and from there to San Francisco, Los Angeles, San Diego, and from there to...?

7. Well said! High speed rail connecting major cities...
How about a package delivery servvice with super computers connected to the high speed rail... an alternative to UPS or Fed Ex? Thousands more new jobs.

Rebuild our electic grid, make fiber optic available to all towns no matter how small.

Sadly.. our future is being squandered in wars of choice in Pakistan and Libya. Pres Obama has authorisze $500 million more per day for Afgahn, Iraq, Yemen, Lybia and Pakistan.

Yet... not a penny for unemployed in America?

Does this make sense? Why isn't anyone speaking up?
