WASHINGTON -- A new study says one of the few benefits of global warming – fewer deaths from the combination of extreme heat and cold – may eventually melt away in Europe.

For years, scientists figured that with global warming there are fewer overall temperature-related deaths when those from heat waves and cold snaps are combined. The increase in heat wave deaths during hotter spells is more than offset by reduced cold deaths in milder winters.

But a new study in Europe finds that around 2040, the increase in heat deaths will likely outweigh the reduction in cold deaths. The study suggests that by 2070, global warming may cause 15,000 more temperature-related deaths a year in Europe, which has less air conditioning than the United States.

The study released Tuesday by Nature Communications looks only at deaths from heat and cold, not increases from flooding, droughts and storms. It used computer models to analyze the climate under global warming and compares those to death rates in 200 separate regions of Europe.

1. Actually, that kind of turns things upside down ...
And keep in mind that scientists have told us that there is no way of saying how

Global Warming effects will compound --

However, we seem to be moving more to a situation where spring and fall are

disappearing and we have two seasons -- winter and summer.

CHAOTIC weather will bring more death -- not less.

The summers are getting constantly hotter --

The winters currently bringing much more snow --

As one scientist put it, as long as the glaciers are melting, it is like having our

freezer door open --

HEATING the atmosphere -- which is what happens with Global Warming -- brings increasingly

chaotic weather --

The melting glaciers are causing more earthquakes in number and severity --

One of the things about Global Warming which not too many know is that there was a 50 year

gap in our feeling the effects of it -- which is what gave the oil industry the time to

lie to the American public about Global Warming tho it cost them tens of billions of dollars

to do it!

In other words, we are now only feeling the effects of Global Warming up to about 1960 --

imagine all we did after that in the burning of fossil fuels!

2. Sounds scary.... Thankfully, none of it's true..
As republicans have stated. Otherwise, I might worry. But, as we all know, God gave us this planet to destroy it before he comes for us and gives us all Segways with wings that float us into Heaven.

Right?

3. I say Off by a factor of 100.
Climate change has just begun to inform us of its own volatility.

4. 15K is such a minuscule number on this temporal and
geographic scale that it is ridiculous to even mention it. The must be a better case for why global
warming is bad for the human race.

6. Tell that to the relatives of victims of heatstroke.
Tell them that their loved one's death doesn't matter because it's statistically insignificant.

Odds don't matter when it happens to you or someone close to you.

My sister died of a brain tumor that was supposedly quite rare. But she's dead anyway. :wtf:

9. Jeez, come down. I am sorry to hear about your sister,
but I don't see how is her death relevant to this topic. And which relatives of which victims are you talking about? They won't all be dead until 2070,
according to those estimates. By that time I will be long gone myself and won't be able to say anything to their relatives anyhow. All I am saying is
that among all the negative consequences of global warming for mankind, this infinitesimal increase in heatstroke mortality is not the one we
should worry about most or use as an argument in favor of trillion-dollar measures to stop the warming. The European governments can probably
save ten times the number of lives by simply issuing fashionable Panama hats and water bottles to all their elderly or even going all out and installing
air conditioners in their homes (the extravagance which would cost under $1 billion at current prices). Focusing on this most insignificant effect
of global warming only distracts attention from real dangers associated with it.

8. Well said.
How does this measure up to the various wars we are pursuing at the moment? Peanuts, peanuts.
