Qwest jury deadlocked on some charges

By Jon Sarche
The Associated Press

Post file
Qwest's office buildings in downtown Denver.

A Denver federal jury said today it was deadlocked on some of the charges against four former Qwest Communications executives accused of improperly booking nearly $34 million.

U.S. District Judge Robert Blackburn did not declare a mistrial. After conferring with attorneys in the case, he gave jurors the option of continuing their work or stopping altogether.

Should they stop, Blackburn said, they would have to decide whether to return a partial verdict on charges they have agreed on.
