Group's Petition Demands Vander Plaats Apology

One Iowa leaders said that in less than 24 hours they have collected more than 1,000 signatures on the petition.

Vander Plaats is the president and CEO of the Family Leader, a group that opposes same-sex marriage in Iowa. A video showing Vander Plaats laughing after hearing an anti-gay joke was recently released by Think Progress.

A person at a Family Leader event is heard on the video saying, "You know what my wife says? She says: Iowa, the state where you can’t smoke a fag, but you can marry one."

Vander Plaats is seen laughing on the video and heard saying, "That's pretty good."

Vander Plaats makes me sick. He brings shame and dishonor upon the people of Iowa.
