Saudis say won't use oil to influence US election
http://cnn.netscape.cnn.com/ns/news/story.jsp?id=2004041914030002047120&dt=20040419140300&w=RTR&coview=

Saudi Arabia said Monday it will not use oil prices to try to sway the U.S. presidential election, denying an allegation that the kingdom would cut petroleum prices before November to boost President George W. Bush's re-election bid.

<snip>

A Saudi official issued a statement saying the kingdom -- the world's largest oil exporter -- will not interfere with U.S. elections and will remain a reliable supplier of oil.

"We do not use oil for political purposes; it is too important a commodity, and its impact on the global economy (of which we are a part) is tremendous," said Adel Al-Jubeir, foreign affairs adviser to the Crown Prince of Saudi Arabia.

"Saudi Arabia also does not interfere in elections," he said.

3. It's too late for denials
It's already documented that the Saudi royal family will use oil as a way of interfering with the election.

Now we'll see if the sheeple wake up from the 4 year slumber and allow a foreign country to influence the election.

I really thought there was a scandal here, and that the Saudis and Bush were in cahoots. But if the House of Saud says it isn't playing footsie with the House of Bush, then that's good enough for me...:eyes:

although it certainly doesn't hurt the Bushco oil cartel in the pocketbook, even if it does contribute to Bush's downfall. Only the consumer....er....citizens lose either way it goes.

The Saudis can hardly lower prices now without being suspect.

9. LOL, We don't interfere in elections. LOL
why would they? they don't believe in elections!

But that is not the issue. Bush arranged or tried to arrange an election for oil scam.... THAT is the only issue. Doesn't matter what SA does or does not do.

Blood for oil
Elections for oil
Our souls for oil

There's a pattern, AND a common denominator....

13. So who do you think...
will believe ANYTHING the Saudi government says now.

They've already lost.

If they manipulate production to cut prices, then Woodward is right.

If they manipulate to keep prices high, then they're "covering" for Bush.

The cat has been let out of the bag....they have no way of putting it back in.

18. Those guys used to be so good at all staying on the same page.

"ABSTRACT - Vice Pres Dick Cheney, representing energy-rich Wyoming in Congress in 1986, introduced legislation to create new import tax that would have caused price of oil and gasoline to soar by billions of dollars per year; said at that time that low oil prices were not good for United States; sought tax to stabilize oil-state economies that were devastated when Saudi Arabia flooded world market, causing oil prices to plunge;"

http://query.nytimes.com/gst/abstract.html?res=F30B12F8345D0C758CDDAD0894DC404482

So what's the deal- not enough electoral votes in the oil states? Cheney already has his nest egg? Or, wait...I think I have it...

Oil prices WILL go up (due to Saudi production cuts, but nobody will pay attention to WHY), and Butch/Cha-chingey '04 will claim it is because Kerry is ahead in the polls, and we NEED 'Pubs in the White House to stabilize!

Did the Saudis influence the election of President Bush in 2000 by manipulating the cost of oil so that the economy would worsen making it more difficult to elect Al Gore?

30. Somewhat
Oil production was cut and prices rose sharply. Clinton released some 30 million? barrels of oil from the strategic reserves to dull the costs, and the chimp said that Gore put him up to it for political reasons. What do you think?

Saudi increases oil exports quota despite Opec deal

NEW YORK: Saudi Arabia raised May crude exports to some customers despite an Opec deal to cut wellhead production, due to increased production ahead of planned maintenance at a slew of refineries which left an overhang of supply, oil company sources said yesterday.

The export increase was confirmed by three Japanese refiners who said they had all received notification of a rise in Saudi term contract supplies for next month. Industry sources said May allocations for US customers were unchanged. Saudi term supplies to Japan in April were set at 12-13 per cent below full contract volumes.

"It's a big surprise because we expected the usual 12pc cut. As a refiner, we welcome the move," said a trader at one of the refiners.

Traders had expected Saudi Arabia shave term volumes in May, or at least leave them unchanged from April following Opec's decision on March 31 to press through a cut of one million barrels a day to group production.

<snip>

Saudi Arabia fully supported enforcement of the April 1 cut and industry sources in the kingdom stressed that Riyadh was still adhering to the output curbs and was not increasing flows from the wellhead.
