Indian drummers expose Bangalore tax avoiders
Source: bbc

"The taxes recovered will be used to help provide better civic amenities in the city," corporation Commissioner Siddaiah told the BBC.

Already a group of drum beaters has been seen in action outside office premises rented out by a multinational company.

The owner is alleged not to have paid taxes for more than three years.

"I thought at first that it was a roadside drama happening. It is in a way a very crude method but I guess it will be effective," said Ms Nalini, a passerby.

2. That's exactly why........
American companies are choosing to fold up their tents here and do business there. The "too many American regulations" crowd needs a place to do business where they can ignore all laws and regulations (if there are any) to maximize profits. If India starts cracking down on these robber barons they'll just move somewhere else where they can operate unimpeded. The lawlessness of these corporate giants is the primary reason the world's economy is on the brink of destruction.
They'll just move on and buy another government that won't regulate them. That's their "business plan" now, and it's not going to stop until THE PEOPLE do something about it. We certainly can't rely on our government for protection from these thugs. They OWN the government.

4. It wasn't the tenant US company that was delinquent
it was the Indian landlord.

American (and other) multinational companies are generally law-abiding wherever they go -- they just abuse loopholes in the law to get away with what they do.

5. What is "abusing" an loophole? Are Gates & Buffett abusing the
charitable contribution loophole, thus denying taxpayers the cash?

We use the "itemize deductions" loophole and claim our mortgage interest instead of filing with the standard deduction.

The story was not reported inaccurately - the landlords were evading, not avoiding taxes.
