Samsung to seek iPhone 4S bans in France, Italy

SEOUL, Oct. 5 (Yonhap) -- Samsung Electronics Co. said Wednesday that it plans to file complaints against the new iPhone in France and Italy, seeking to block sales of Apple Inc.'s latest device in those European countries.

The company will ask judges in Paris and Milan on Wednesday morning to ban sales of the new iPhone, alleging that Apple violated its mobile patents, it said in a release.

Samsung said that Apple infringed on three of its mobile patents in total related to wireless technologies called WCDMA. The Korean firm plans to file additional lawsuits in other countries.

On Tuesday, Apple introduced its iPhone 4S, the upgraded version of the iPhone, at its Cupertino, CA, headquarters. The new iPhone will be released on Oct. 14 in the United States, Australia, Canada, France, Germany, Japan and the United Kingdom.
