Rep. Earl Blumenauer, Democrats, demand ethics probe of Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas
Source: The Oregonian

WASHINGTON -- A group of liberal Democrats, led by Rep. Earl Blumenauer, will formally ask the House Judiciary Committee today to investigate “ethical lapses” by Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas.

At issue is Thomas’ failure to report "at least $1.6 million" in earnings by his wife Virginia for her work at the conservative Heritage Foundation between 2003 and 2007. Virginia Thomas has been one of the most vocal critics of the federal health care law. The Supreme Court will hear a case this term determining the law’s constitutionality.

The letter also asked the committee to examine "air travel and yacht stays and other gifts from wealthy supporters."

“Reports of potential ethical lapses by Justice Thomas’s actions give rise to concerns about conflicts of interest undermining appellants’ rights of due process and also raise substantive questions about Justice Thomas’s ability to retain his seat,” said the letter, which was written by Blumenauer and will be delivered today.

4. Me too
And I've sent numerous post cards and letters to those who could provoke investigations into this matter. Who knows? Maybe we're instigating something here.
Maybe you heard that congresswoman on Countdown last night - she said it's come to light that there could be a retroactive recusal instituted regarding supreme court decisions. This could mean that the Citizens United decision might possibly be neutered! Keith vowed to feature time on the retroactive recusal on Countdown this evening (10/5/2011). I'm dying to hedar what he comes up with!

5. The problem is simply this
1.6 million to them is like you or I picking a penny off the street.

That amount doesn't even get Rick Parry's attention.

12. Who put this pubic hair on my Coke?
I hope Congressman Blumenauer and the other Dems are successful in getting the House judiciary Committee to investigate the "ethical lapses" by Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas.
However, Judiciary Committee Chairman Rep. Lamar Smith probably won't even consider such a request until another matter is dealt with... namely, the possibility that Attorney General Eric Holder may have lied in his testimony before the Committee back in May.

October 4, 2011.
"House Judiciary Committee Chairman Lamar Smith (R-Texas) today called for the appointment of a special counsel to investigate whether comments made by Attorney General Eric Holder during a House Judiciary Committee hearing in May 2011 were truthful. In a letter to President Obama, Chairman Smith expressed concern that members of Congress may have been misled by the Attorney General's response to a question regarding his knowledge of the Fast and Furious program. The Attorney General stated that the first time he had heard of the program was in the weeks leading up to the May 2011 hearing. But documents released on Friday night raise significant questions about the truthfulness of the Attorney General's testimony"
