Suit: Pipeline work jumps gun (Keystone XL violates the National Environmental Policy Act)

By Joe Duggan

Three environmental groups were suing the federal government Wednesday for allowing work to start on the proposed Keystone XL oil pipeline before the project has received final approval.

The groups named the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and the U.S. State Department in a lawsuit filed in U.S. District Court in Omaha. They say the agencies have allowed TransCanada, the project sponsor, to mow a pathway for the pipeline before the State Department has given final authorization.

Such work, when completed before a project's approval, violates the National Environmental Policy Act, said Noah Greenwald, a staff member of the Center for Biological Diversity.

"It's outrageous that TransCanada is already clearing the way for the Keystone XL pipeline before the public has had a chance to have its say, and indeed, before federal agencies have even said it can be built," he said in a news release.

4. my friend is a dispatcher for a large garage door manufacturer.
she said their biggest market is in northern plains states. she sends two to three trucks a week there. 5 years ago it was 4-5 trucks to the west and now it`s maybe 1 a week.

i`d say that pipe is going to be built no matter what laws are violated.

5. This also breaking news....water is wet, details at 11....
The sad thing is that this pipeline is a done deal and EVERYONE knows it.

The politicians are just going through the motions to maintain their appearance as remotely giving a shit about the environment and the business leaders are laughing their asses off in giggling anticipation of more profits and at the ridiculously low price it takes to buy off the schleps in office.

This is going to happen.
This is going to have disastrous results inside the decade.
This is going to make even more money for bastards like the Kochs and their ilk.
This is going to be another tipping point that history uses to condemn us for our lack of action and lack of vision.

We are responsible for the rape and pillage of the Earth already, but we seem to be ready and willing to up that to murder as well.
