Ron Paul raises $8 million in 3 months

WASHINGTON (AP) - Republican presidential candidate Ron Paul says he raised $8 million in the last three months.

The Texas congressman said Wednesday that his campaign will report that sum when it files its fundraising report with the Federal Election Commission later this month. Paul also says his campaign has more than 100,000 donors.

Paul says "we are very pleased with that" and called his effort "pretty sound numbers."

Paul raised $4.5 million during the first fundraising quarter of his campaign.

3. What is wrong with Ron Paul and the Libertarians:

Our country was founded on the principle of Liberty and Justice for all.

Ron Paul and the Libertarians advocate for liberty, but they do everything they can to insure there is no justice for the poor, the working man, minorities, women, any group that can't bully and scratch its way to the top of the national heap.

The idea of Liberty and JUSTICE for all necessarily produces social tension between the individual's quest for self-fulfillment and society's quest for fairness. It requires a willingness on the part of those who are "successful" to sacrifice to insure justice for those who are not.

Ron Paul and the Libertarians don't talk much about justice. And when they talk around it, they do not deal with the inherent injustice in a system that provides liberty for the strong, the wealthy, the intelligent -- those who obtain justice without a struggle but no justice for the weak, the poor, the mentally incapicitated.

Our country, however, was founded to insure a balance -- justice for all, liberty for all -- a balance and the ultimate goal is to promote the general welfare not just the welfare of the fortunate.

The Preamble to the Constitution reflects this concern for the balance between these competing values:

We the People of the United States,
in Order to form a more perfect Union,
establish Justice,
insure domestic Tranquility,
provide for the common defence,
promote the general Welfare,
and secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity,
do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America.

Note the order in which these goals are listed -- the Union, then Justice, next Tranquility, then defence (security), then the general welfare, and only after all of those goals the Founding Fathers added securing the Blessings of Liberty.

Insuring liberty is only possible when the other goals have been met including justice, including promotion of the general welfare and achievement of domestic tranquility.

Ron Paul and the Libertarians err in ignoring the process and most of the goals the Founding Fathers set for our nation.

8. you got it. i always think that liberals and progressives

need to take back the freedom word, from Ron Paul and the libertarians. Freedom from want, freedom from fear. freedom from need and hunger.

losing everything when you get sick (and have medical insurance) is not freedom. working for a company for 30 years and getting your job eliminated (so it can go overseas) and seeing your income go down by half (if you can find a job, being 50+) is not freedom. working your whole life, and not being secure in retirement is not freedom.

and the libertarians. Big on their liberty list are property- which is owned mostly by the rich and corporations - and guns, which are horrible.

5. The biggest reason that Ron Paul has gained so much momentum and support is because the rest

of the Republican Party has for too long went totally overboard on the authoritarian, invasion of privacy, Big Brother side of the ledger.

The "War on Drugs" is a complete disaster and it's turning Mexico into Chicago of the 1920's to the tenth power.
