Minn. businessman Kenneth Dahlberg, WWII ace and inadvertent Watergate figure, dies at 94

MINNEAPOLIS — Minnesota businessman Kenneth Dahlberg, a World War II ace and an inadvertent figure in the Watergate scandal that brought down Richard Nixon’s presidency, has died at age 94, his lawyer said Wednesday.

Dahlberg died Tuesday at his Deephaven home of natural causes, Dahlberg attorney and family friend Warren Mack told The Associated Press. Dahlberg had broken his hip about a year ago and had pneumonia, but his hip had healed and his health had been “great,” Mack said.

Even though Dahlberg did not commit any wrongdoing, he was swept into the Watergate scandal as Midwest finance chairman of Nixon’s 1972 re-election campaign. The Star Tribune (http://bit.ly/mWcAD5 ) reported that Dahlberg became linked to the scandal after a check he delivered to the Nixon campaign turned up in a Watergate burglar’s bank account. The contribution was legal, and a grand jury cleared Dahlberg.

Dahlberg also was a World War II flying ace who was shot down three times behind enemy lines, escaped twice and was a prisoner of war in Munich for the last few months of the war. He founded Miracle Ear Hearing Aid Co. and spearheaded other business ventures, including Minneapolis-based restaurant chain Buffalo Wild Wings Inc., which he helped fund.

In 1978, Cheney was elected to the U.S. House of Representatives from Wyoming; he was reelected five times, eventually becoming House Minority Whip. Cheney was selected to be the Secretary of Defense during the presidency of George H. W. Bush, holding the position for the majority of Bush's term. During this time, Cheney oversaw the 1991 Operation Desert Storm, among other actions.

Out of office during the Clinton presidency, Cheney was chairman and CEO of Halliburton Company from 1995 to 2000.

First TV Broadcast of Happiness is a Warm Blanket, Charlie Brown Announced for Thanksgiving Day (November 24) 2011

The new Peanuts TV special, Happiness is a Warm Blanket, Charlie Brown, will have its premiere TV broadcast on Thanksgiving Day 2011. The special will air on the FOX network from 8:30-9:30 PM (Eastern/Pacific) on Thursday, November 24, 2011 as part of a block of animated specials (including an "Ice Age" and "Simpsons" special). This is the first time a Peanuts TV special has aired on the FOX network; and even though Happiness is a Warm Blanket was released on DVD and Blu-ray earlier this year, this will be its first time on broadcast television.

If you're thinking, "but what about A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving?," don't worry, it will probably still be broadcast too. The broadcast rights for the classic Thanksgiving special are held by ABC, a different network, so the two specials won't air on the same channel. Hopefully they won't both air at the same time, but ABC has not announced an airdate for A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving yet. (September 20, 2011)
