TelegraphHe may be turning 80 on Friday but Archbishop Desmond Tutu is not yet too old to dance.
The Nobel laureate was pictured at the start of his birthday celebrations yesterday dancing with the Soweto Gospel Choir during the launch of the book 'Tutu: The Authorised Portrait' at the St Georges Cathedral in Cape Town, South Africa.
The upbeat, relaxed ceremony was attended by anti-apartheid luminaries such as Ahmed Kathrada and Alan Boesak, and others such as U2 frontman Bono, who sat with Tutu's family on the front pew.
"More than ever in these chaotic times, we need the strength, the wisdom and indeed the serenity of Desmond Tutu," said Bono, who also joked that: "I'm obviously not radical enough to be denied a visa."
He spoke in reference to Tutu's last-ditch appeal for South Africa to grant a visa to the Dalai Lama so the exiled Tibetan spiritual leader could attend his birthday celebrations. Tutu's appeal was rejected yesterday
