CAIRO (AP) — Egyptian state television reports at least one soldier has been killed in riots that erupted in Cairo as Christians protesting a recent attack on a church came under attack.

An Interior Ministry official at the scene told Associated Press that two people were killed in the riots on Sunday, but did not give details. A number of military vehicles were set on fire and thick black smoke rose along the Nile outside the state television building.

CAIRO (AP) — Thousands of Coptic Christian protesters chanting against Egypt's military rulers came under attack on Sunday by assailants firing pellets and throwing rocks, a security official and witnesses said. Several vehicles were set on fire during the clashes, sending heavy black smoke rising over a scenic street along the Nile.

The Christians were protesting the latest attack on a church in southern Egypt. The rally began in the Shubra district of northern Cairo, then headed to the state television building overlooking the Nile where men in plainclothes attacked them. It was not immediately clear who the attackers were. Anti-riot police held the crowds back from the towering TV building.

Egyptian protesters set military vehicle ablaze: TV
CAIRO | Sun Oct 9, 2011 1:38pm EDT

CAIRO (Reuters) - Egyptian Coptic Christians protesting against an attack on a church clashed with military police in Cairo and set army vehicles on fire Sunday, live TV footage showed, in the country's latest sectarian flare-up.

Christians, who make up 10 percent of Egypt's roughly 80 million people, blamed Muslim radicals for partially demolishing a church in Aswan province last week.

They took to the streets demanding the governor be sacked for failing to protect the building.

3. 24 dead in worst Cairo riots since Mubarak ouster
CAIRO (AP) -- Flames lit up downtown Cairo, where massive clashes raged Sunday, drawing Christians angry over a recent church attack, hard-line Muslims and Egyptian security forces. At least 24 people were killed and more than 200 injured in the worst sectarian violence since the uprising that ousted Hosni Mubarak in February.

The rioting lasted late into the night, bringing out a deployment of more than 1,000 security forces and armored vehicles to defend the state television building along the Nile, where the trouble began. The military clamped a curfew on the area until 7 a.m.

The clashes spread to nearby Tahrir Square, drawing thousands of people to the vast plaza that served as the epicenter of the protests that ousted Mubarak. On Sunday night, they battled each other with rocks and firebombs, some tearing up pavement for ammunition and others collecting stones in boxes.

At one point, an armored security van sped into the crowd, striking a half-dozen protesters and throwing some into the air. Protesters retaliated by setting fire to military vehicles, a bus and private cars, sending flames rising into the night sky.

4. :( It is very troubling... I hate seeing stuff like this happen where it appears the ruling powers
start crap and end up causing or directly killing people.

God bless them for trying to be peaceful in a protest. I hope they can get rid of the iron fisted murderers who are clinging to power.
