Joe the plumber to run against. Marcy Kaptur (D)

TOLEDO, Ohio — Joe the Plumber is now Joe the congressional candidate.

The Ohioan who became an overnight sensation during the 2008 presidential campaign has filed paperwork to run for Congress.

Samuel "Joe" Wurzelbacher's (WUR'-zuhl-bahk-kurz) statement of candidacy filed with the Federal Elections Commission last week says he intends to run as a Republican in Ohio's ninth U.S. House district.

The incumbent is Marcy Kaptur, the longest serving Democratic woman in the House.

Wurzelbacher rose from obscurity in 2008 after questioning then-candidate Barack Obama about economic policies, leading Republican Sen. John McCain to repeatedly cite "Joe the Plumber" in a debate with the Democrat.

Republicans in northern Ohio said over the summer they were recruiting Wurzelbacher to run.

The filing means a campaign committee can raise and spend funds on Wurzelbacher's be

13. Ordinarily, you'd be right. Except the Repubs have divided Kaptur's home county into 3 districts.
Under the proposed Republican map, it's an obvious attempt to dilute Kaptur's base and spread her district into more rural, conservative parts of Ohio that run on a narrow strip along the Lake Erie shore all the way into Cuyahoga County (Cleveland).

Under this map, much of Kaptur's new district has never been represented by her and likely knows little about her.

How many people, on the other hand, heard of Joe the Plummer? Plus, never underestimate the ignorance of the American voter.

Kaptur may win, but it'll be close. She had a relatively close race against a teabagger, Rich Iott, whose claim to fame was inheriting his father's grocery store chain, selling out, making a killing for himself and throwing hundreds of employees to unemployment as the buyer of his chain of stores closed them. Oh, and Iott was also the same guy who spends his leisure time dressing like a Nazi officer.

18. Thanks for the info...
That is discouraging to hear.

And of course, the Republicans are doing everything they can to eliminate her.

Good luck for her!

May she fight strongly.

24. If Joe hasn't moved away from Holland, OH...
...(a bedroom community outside of Toledo) then he isn't even living in the 9th district anymore. That part of our terribly gerrymandered 9th district will fall into the 5th district, currently held by Republican Bob Latta's huge district, which is heavily Republican.

http://latta.house.gov/

Here is a current map of the 5th district:

http://latta.house.gov/District/Map.htm

Under the new messed up gerrymandered 9th district, Lucas Co. will be divided into thirds. Holland is in the western part of Lucas Co. and will probably go to Latta.

Let's grab footage from Capitalism: A love story, showing Marcy telling people to stay in their homes. That is leadership! Let me guess, Joe is now a foreign policy expert? I love to hear him say something that does not involve Israel...

I would say that voters would not be crazy enough to vote for a guy like Joe. Then I remember that my Congressman is Steve King, who believes that God guided our founding fathers, who created the perfect nation.

How sad. I mean lipstick-on-a-pig palin, and bat-shit crazy bachmann...I can almost understand. But this total loser is just beyond the pale. God help us all if this loser gets any traction with his nonsense. He doesn't even know how to write his name on a paper, let alone represent people in Washington DC. Jesus...what is this world coming to? "Why have you forsaken us?"

26. Ohio voters shouldn't be THAT dumb, think about how popular Sarah Palin is now
if Joe has had any racist/insensitive/smearing moments they should be played in campaign ads

and yes many people may dislike Washington's current cast of lobbyist/corporate-funded/corrupt career politicians, but Joe will appeal to HOW many thinking voters?
