Arrest Bush when he visits B.C., Amnesty tells Ottawa
Source: Canadian Press

Amnesty International Canada says the federal government should arrest former U.S. president George W. Bush when he visits British Columbia next week.

The rights body says both Canadian and international law oblige Canada to detain Bush and investigate him for war crimes and torture.

Amnesty Canada's secretary-general, Alex Neve, says Mr. Bush admits in his memoirs that he authorized the use of torture against terror suspects.

2. Once again, it's not going to happen with a Conservative Majority Canadian
Government. Harper is not going to do anything at all when Bush comes to Vancouver, just as he did nothing when Cheney was there.

4. No Canadian government is stupid enough to listen to these fools.
And if they did, the US would have to take incredibly strong measures, up to and including a declaration of war, to get our ex President back.

5. I Wish Some Liberal Judge
In the U.S. would issue some warrents for the arrests of Bush and co. Even if they were thrown out on procedural grounds, the publicity would be tremendously embarassing.

7. That would be a political disaster of biblical proportions
And the Democrats would come out WAY worse for it. A domestic prosecution would harm the Democrats too, but a foreign incident would rally swing voters around the Republicans in a heartbeat.

It would amount to handing them an issue to run on that could completely change the game in 2012 and lead to a Republican White House and Republican majorities in both houses of Congress.

And I suspect one of the reasons we won't is that many top Dems agree with my assessment. They will NEVER let that happen.

Mexico is second. At least last time I checked. No need to take the sands.

15. Careful, the Chinese are moving into the tar sands.
After Peak Oil, Chinese mercantilism just might trump the "free" market. You can't be too careful.

Besides, we need private health care up here anyway. :sarcasm:

19. He's had a DUI. How can he even enter the country legally?
It's widely known one is ineligible to visit Canada if one has a prior arrest for drunk driving.

So, how can this happen in the first place?

20. Amnesty (International) calls on Canada to arrest Bush for 'torture'
Source: Vancouver Sun

Amnesty International called on Canadian authorities Wednesday to arrest and prosecute George W. Bush, saying the former U.S. president authorized "torture" when he directed the U.S.-led war on terror.

Bush is expected to attend an economic summit in Surrey in Canada's westernmost British Columbia province on October 20.

The London-based group charged that Bush has legal responsibility for a series of human rights violations in a memorandum submitted last month to Canada's attorney general but only now released to the media.

Bush cancelled a visit to Switzerland in February, after facing similar public calls for his arrest.

22. Wth does he want up here, anyway?
Hopefully, someone will at least try a citizen's arrest ... because we all know, Harper is laughing his ass off right now at Amnesty. It's a toss up between he and Bush as to which is more arrogant and dismissive of world treaties and laws.
