Brad Drake, Florida State Representative, Proposes Execution By Electric Chair, Firing Squad

Here's a piece of legislation you don't see every day. One Florida state Rep. is proposing a big change to the way his state handles executions. Brad Drake, a Republican, filed a bill Tuesday to eliminate lethal injection and bring back executions by electrocution or firing squad.

"We still have Old Sparky. And if that doesn't suit the criminal, then we will provide them a .45 caliber lead cocktail instead," he said in a press release.

Drake expressed frustration over how long the process took. "I am sick and tired of this sensitivity movement for criminals," he said. "Every time there is a warranted execution that is about to take place, some man or woman is standing on a corner holding a sign, yelling and screaming for humane treatment."

"I am so tired of being humane to inhumane people," he said.

or hanging. I was curious after seeing an old episode of Criminal Minds on DVD--where the woman was supposedly electrocuted during the late 70s or 80s. Since it always bugs me when shows are not at least believable, in terms of historical accuracy, I googled.. Apparently, while lethal injection has become the default for most states, there are alternate methods that remain legal.

Unfortunately, given difficult in getting sodium thiopental and the unapproved substitution of pentobarbital, some of these states may revisit these methods, since they were adjudicated in the past (and presumably would still be considered legal by the USSC).

Why not go to the method that scared the USA about Islam, 
Behead them, is that not as cruel as firing squad. This shows

but it is not the one he is making. There is nothing humane about killing people. The humane thing is not doing it at all. The "gentler" manners of killing are not for the benefit of those receiving it, but so the rest of us feel better about having it done in our names. I don't feel better about it.

Reparsed, his statement "I am so tired of being humane to inhumane people," is in fact a plea for permission to be inhumane whenever he feels appropriate. If that is what he wants, then why stop with firing squads and ole' sparky? The history of the middle ages is rife with creative ideas.
