Granholm to host Current TV show
Source: Detroit Free Press

Jennifer Granholm is about to go prime-time.

On Wednesday, the former two-term Democratic governor of Michigan said she'll begin hosting a new one-hour show in January, "The War Room with Jennifer Granholm." It will run on former Vice President Al Gore's Current TV at 9 p.m. following the network's flagship program, "Countdown with Keith Olbermann."

The political show, which Granholm said is going to be "hot," will be based in San Francisco, where Current is located. It will hit on the headlines of the day and feature in-studio commentary by pundits, campaign veterans, policy- and news-makers, and even feature some comedic twists.

"We want it to be entertaining, but we also want it to be very thoughtful," she said during a conference call that included Gore and other Current executives.

in Michigan. Not sure what 'creds' she brings to the job, aside from being a pretty face with a decent I.Q.

She has a lot to offer as an effective administrator of some kind.
But having a show opposite Rachel? Not at smart move. They should just leave that hour empty.

26. Yeah, his "Young Turks" starts next month.
I'm just glad to see more talent being developed and getting a showcase - on OUR side of the political aisle. Pox Noise has armies of reporters, talking heads, hosts, "anchors," and more. Then there's the limbaugh machine and the syndicators whether it's Premiere or ClearChannel or whatever - that have spread all-CONservative hate radio and its message of intolerance, racism, anarchy, divisiveness, selfishness, and glorifying greed across the land from coast to coast like the Bubonic Plague. And we have very little with which to counter-act it. We need more bench strength! I'm glad they're developing new talent at Current. I'm glad to see Chris Hayes get a show on MSNBC. We need more of OUR people in positions on the air, leading with OUR stories and what WE regard as newsworthy, independent of any agenda-driven corporate/CONservative filter.

27. It wasn't that long ago when we couldn't
hear a liberal voice anywhere on TV or radio. It was during that time that I found DU. I remember how excited we were when Air America came on the air and it was the only liberal radio station at the time.

We've come a long way and now with Current TV, it seems to be snowballing.

Current TV is doing a might fine job of becoming real competition for getting us Liberal viewers. All they need now is Rachael. At least now we have two TV stations. Now so long ago we didn't have ANY! I will always be grateful to MSNBC for being the first.

She's easy to watch, soft spoken and can make arguments point by point, clearly and precise. This is good. It sounds like Al Gore and Olbermann have decided to help with the coming election by being the information place to go.

29. YES. And pay attention to the commercial breaks. They now have a couple of big advertisers -
Edited on Sat Oct-15-11 02:40 PM by calimary
AT&T and some car company. We need more. Not just the bottom-feeder Select Quote or those reverse mortgage things - that's like the Buy-Gold! crap and doesn't carry any credibility. Some of the bigger advertisers. That's when we'll know we're getting noticed. It's the first time I've actually wanted to sit through a commercial break - just to see who's supporting MY new favorite show.

This is good. BUILD IT! Al Gore and Keith Olbermann: Remember the lesson of "Field of Dreams!" If you build it, they will come!!!!!

Besides, Jennifer Granholm is rather a babe. Quite a lovely look about her. Very easy on the eyes and evidently she's had those big moles removed from her face - GREAT IDEA! Makes her FAR more camera-ready. She's articulate and smart and has credentials. I'll be very interested to try out her show and see if it has potential. But I'm surprised she hasn't been recruited sooner. Surprised that MSNBC or CNN hasn't snapped her up already. It's shallow as hell, but you need nice-looking people on TV to appeal to audiences. "It's The Visuals, Stupid," to rip off a riff from James Carville.

32. I LOVE Current TV!!!
The programming is excellent- I can't wait
to see how it expands and develops!
I just wish more people could access it.
I think if it were available to more viewers
not many people would bother watching the corporate networks.
Hopefully, people are sick and tired of that crap by now
and would find the Current TV shows a refreshing alternative.
I know I do!

Unemployment was about 7% when she came into office which is where it stayed until the national recession started. I guess you've joined the GOP in blaming Granholm for Engler and Bush's mess. Nice.

37. Nonsense
Edited on Sun Oct-16-11 11:47 PM by blue_onyx
Was she suppose to make the auto companies perform better? Was she suppose to prevent the national economy from collapsing? Damn her for not wiggling her nose to undo 12 years of Engler and decades of inaction on diversifying the economy. When the national economy collapsed, Granholm should've went to Washington and forced them to fix the economy.

FYI, MI had a lot of good economic news during Granholm's term that was overshadowed by the auto industry. One example:

"Michigan’s high-tech industry saw a net gain of 2,700 jobs, or 2 percent in 2010 – the most high-tech jobs gained by any state from 2009 to 2010. These Michigan employees shared a total payroll of $11.5 billion in 2010."

http://www.mlive.com/jobs/index.ssf/2011/10/michigan_ranks_15th_in_technology_employ.html

Regarding her move, who cares what job she takes afterwards. Was she suppose to sit in MI doing nothing?

38. We are defined by our successes and failures in THIS world, not the perfect one of our dreams.
Perhaps Jennifer Granholm was a victim of circumstance, but she was NOT a good governor, as defined by her objective failures.

"Regarding her move, who cares what job she takes afterwards. Was she suppose to sit in MI doing nothing?"

Do you understand the irony of this statement? Indeed, what are ANY of us supposed to be doing in Michigan, eh? :puke:

40. Granholm WAS a good governor
You've failed to make any case to show she was a bad governor other than to say the economy was bad during her term. By that definition FDR was a horrible president.

But if those GOP talking point give you comfort then by all means enjoy them.

"Indeed, what are ANY of us supposed to be doing in Michigan, eh?"

You do realize that the number of job positions for former governors are fairly limited right?

41. At best, she did not rise above lousy circumstances. She was not a good governor.
"But if those GOP talking point give you comfort then by all means enjoy them."

Use "GOP" like a magic word if it makes you feel better. I've got nothing to do with the GOP. I just happened to live through 8 years of Granholm's ineffectual leadership. She isn't to blame for the troubles of the Michigan economy, but neither did she do a thing to rise above poor circumstances. She can't claim success she simply didn't have--it's dishonest.

"You do realize that the number of job positions for former governors are fairly limited right?"

Three or four law schools in Michigan, as well as one or more world-class universities. Give me a break. Leaving Michigan in tatters was a craven act of cowardice--a last failure in a long string of failures.

42. Not defending Granholm, but Michigan's economy was an absolute disaster when she gained office.
Its manufacturing base had already been pillaged by decades of out-sourcing to China and other third world dictatorships, and there are no real substitutes for the lost number of high-paying manufacturing jobs. Sure, high tech jobs can replace some of the losses, but at the end of the day, it can't replace the sheer number of manufacturing jobs lost. Manufacturing was the bedrock of the Michigan middle class and the United States in general.

If the goal was to reverse that fundamental economic problem of no manufacturing base, she was simply out-gunned from day one. It can be fixed at the national level simply because the federal government has the resources to address a national problem affecting all the states, not just Michigan. A governor of one state doesn't have access to that kind of firepower, especially if the president is pushing more free-trade deals which help nobody but corporate barons on Wall Street.

43. It doesn't matter...
what she would've done. Through the years I've been on DU, I don't think I've ever seen a post from you that hasn't been negative. Whether it's Republicans or Democrats, it's always negative. You're a complainer. There's nothing Granholm could've done that you would've been satisfied with. I have a feeling there's not one politician who isn't a sell-out or failure in your book.

"I've got nothing to do with the GOP. "

Yes you do...you're parroting the same bullshit I've read from the GOP. Blaming Granholm for things not going well in MI during the last decade is ridiculous. By your standard, anybody who was governor would've been a failure.

I see you see ignored the positive news I posted (shocking). There's so many stories like that and I've posted about them before on DU. I would list the positive economic news that occurred in MI but, like I said, it doesn't matter to you. You need to only focus on the negative to validate your opinion.

I notice you still haven't made a case as to why Granholm was a poor governor....beyond "poor economy = failure."

Enjoy Gov. Snyder....I have a feeling he's more your cup of tea.

Just because MI has law schools and universities doesn't mean there's a position available. How do you know she didn't look for a position at UofM?

"Leaving Michigan in tatters was a craven act of cowardice"

Wow. Pretty pathetic. Seriously, you have issues. Why you're so bitter about something people do all the time (move for jobs) is so odd.
