Barney Frank retracts charge on Tim Geithner air travel
Source: WaPo

It turns out Treasury Secretary Timothy F. Geithner doesn’t make inappropriate use of military aircraft. Rep. Barney Frank (D-Mass.) on Saturday retracted the allegation, saying he had acted “on inadequate information.”

“I have now gotten more information than I had before about the Treasury Secretary’s travel,” Frank, ranking member of the House Financial Services Committee, said in a statement. “Based on the information I have now gotten — and that I should have looked into before — I now believe that the Secretary’s travel patterns are appropriate and do not need any mandated change from us.”

2. Barney knows all about appropriate travel patterns.

I remember during the last election it came out that he got a flight on a hedge fund manager's private jet on his way to stay at the guy's house in the Virgin Islands (a hedge fund that had received a $200 million bailout, too).

4. Fact checking is fundamental.
Without it, you're just another lying, spinning, Republican.

...But it is so much easier when you can make up your own facts and/or just repeat what you read on a few blogs especially when you have a narrative to defend! :sarcasm:

7. "He does [use military transport] when necessary.”
When is it necessary for a Treas. Sec. to use military transport? He's a general heading to Afghanistan now?

More tax dollar waste.

Does the pres. know Gen. Geithner is using military transport? If so he should put an end to it and BTW, get a new Treas. Sec.

8. Agree - DoD planes should be used for military missions - to
include the President/Commander In Chief, the Vice President and the Secretary of Defense. Their families could tag along on a space-available basis - but no dedicated flights just for family members.

I'd even allow missions for the Secretary of State on major occasions. But for the other Departments, Congress, and the Supreme Court, no way. They can get a commercial coach ticket just like I can - with an option to upgrade as long as it's paid for out of their personal funds.

If they want to open it up for BS like family trips, then go fetch me a G5. I'd like to vacation for a week and of course take my wife, teenagers and our Beagle.
