PHOENIX — The Arizona Legislature is forming a special committee to make recommendations to the state's redistricting commission about its draft map of new legislative districts.
Some of the Legislature's majority Republicans have expressed criticism of the draft map, saying it violates a constitutional mandate for creation of districts that respect so-called communities of interest.
Legislative spokesmen say the joint House-Senate committee will include members from both parties and meet for the first time Friday.
One of the spokesmen says there could be a special session called later for the full Legislature to consider the panel's recommendations.
State constitutional provisions on redistricting permit the Legislature to make a recommendation to the commission.
