Man catches fire during clashes with Greek police
Source: "The Telegraph" United Kingdom

"A protester catches fire during angry clashes between demonstrators and Greek police during the biggest anti-austerity protest the ravaged-debt country has seen in the past two years.

Black-clad protesters hurled stones and fire bombs at police in front of the Greek parliament as the legislators were preparing to vote on whether to pass painful new austerity measures demanded as part of a new eurozone bailout package.

Four protesters were taken to hospital with severe injuries and 27 others with breathing problems. At least two people were treated on the site by paramedics, one of them suffered from head injury
.

For the first time since the outbreak of the crisis two years ago, protesters pushed up to the steps of the parliament building itself, setting fire to a sentry box occupied by Evzones – the ceremonial guards who stand watch over the main symbols of the Greek state. "

A very good, sobering video is at the link. The people are very much against the bailout and austerity that the parliment is about to vote on. This is what happens when elected leaders ignore the people's wishes.

3. The US?
Would you apply this logic to the US's inability to collect/impose taxes on corporations and the wealthy?

6. Yes.
That would be the legislative's -the elected leaders'- JOB, wouldn't it?
Making sure that the system works, by the people for the people and all that quaint stuff.

I'm pretty sure that's what the electorate wanted. A working, fair system.
What they got was economic and governmental breakdown and rewards for those who caused the mess in the first place.
