5. Even Wiki is confused.
I guess we'll have to confirm who it really is. They show this Al Saud as having died today.

8. They actually have a shitload of guys who have the "Crown Prince" title.
If I'm not mistaken, though, this guy was first in line. He's not the dude who walked through the bluebells with Porgie, though. He's been suffering from dementia of late, and not doing any of heavy lifting on his defense portfolio.

9. are the same people who celebrated Gadhafi's death going to do a jig about this authoritarian?
Saudi is usually in the top 5 of human rights violators.

Or should we only celebrate the deaths of thugs that get in the way of oil companies and banks?

10. Here's more info from The AP

RIYADH, Saudi Arabia — Saudi TV says the kingdom's heir to the throne Crown Prince Sultan bin Abdel Aziz has died abroad after an illness. He was 85 years old.

The TV says Sultan died in the early hours Saturday morning. He was the half brother of the Saudi king, the kingdom's deputy prime minister and the minister of defense and aviation.

Sultan has had a string of health issues: He underwent surgery in New York in February 2009 for an undisclosed illness and spent nearly a year abroad recuperating in the United States and at a palace in Agadir, Morocco.

The report did not say where outside the kingdom he died or elaborate on Sultan's illness.

14. Prince Sultan bin Abdel Aziz of Saudi Arabia Dies
Source: New York Times

CAIRO — Prince Sultan bin Abdel Aziz, the heir apparent to the Saudi throne and one of the kingdom’s most powerful princes until illness sapped his strength in recent years, has died, raising complex succession issues at a time of political turmoil in the region.

The Royal Court announced the death on Saturday morning, saying the prince had died “abroad.” American officials confirmed that he died at New York-Presbyterian Hospital. State television immediately switched to broadcasting Koranic verses.

Prince Nayef, the powerful and feared interior minister who has lead (sic) the battle against both Islamic extremists and freedom of expression, is widely expected to be tapped as the next crown prince. But for the first time the appointment will likely come from the new family Allegiance Council, which is expected to weigh a broader range of candidates, rather than from the king alone. . .

I think Saudi Arabia is in deep trouble, and soon. The Middle East is changing, and we will see where this goes.
