Marco Rubio admits wrong dates in Cuban parents 'exile'
Source: BBC News

A Florida Republican often touted as a possible 2012 vice-presidential candidate has admitted his Cuban parents did not come to the US as exiles from Fidel Castro's rule.

Senator Marco Rubio acknowledges "getting a few dates wrong" about when they left the Caribbean island.

But the 40-year-old says any suggestion he had spun his background story for political advantage was "outrageous".

>

The Washington Post reported on Friday, after examining official records and naturalisation documents, that Mr Rubio's parents had obtained US residence more than two years before Castro took power in 1959.

3. He just noticed?
I guess he wasn't living at home or something because I pretty much know all about my parents lives and theirs were pretty bland (compared to Rubio's mythical upbringing)

7. I'm sure your parents lives
were not really bland. You're here. :)

:hi:

For his parents not to have recalled whether they left Cuba before or after the Revolution they'd have needed to be retards. Like father like son ?

4. He LIED and will not be aloud to spin his way out of this.
May every family recognize him for what he is, a political opportunist who attempts to represent diversity in his party in a grand effort to kill medicare and privatize social security.

6. from exiles to immigrants
If he told the truth, that would mean his parents came her for economic reasons not political. That does not play as well in republican land.

but 1957 compared to 1959? That's 730 days, dude. Two years. And a certified governmental document issued to the effect was a part of it.

No, you lied for effect and now you got caught in your fucking lie.

14. And let's just assume (although we know it's bullshit) that he truly misspoke about the year. Why go
so far as to even mention Fidel Castro? Clearly Fulgencio Batista was in power. Any idiot would know this was the case. He and his family are full of shit.

21. His parents were both alive during the election.
...there is an easy way to get the story correct, RUBE! Having asked your parents AND your siblings!

From Wikipedia:

"Rubio was born in Miami, Florida.<5> as the second son and third child of Mario Rubio (1927–2010)<6> and Oria Garcia (born 1931). His parents were Cubans who had emigrated to the United States in 1956 and were later naturalized as U.S. citizens in 1975.<7>" (***Note: His page has now been altered in reference to when his parents left Cuba...Can anyone get to the previous version?***)

His mother is NOW only 80...during the election she was only about 77. Come on, she didn't know when they left Cuba? And you never asked either parent????

Lies...Lies...MORE GOPBagger LIES.

I wonder how Charlie Crist is feel'n?!

That Rubio's family fled a right wing dictatorship, not Castro. This should be on every headline concerning this story.

it gives me some kind of giddy joy that dumbo ears used the exile card in such a sloppy manner.

Oh I love the burn that La Loba and the like feel seeing their great white Cuban American hope fizzle.

Well at least I hope it helps fizzle him

24. What's the Cuban word for "toast"?
His statement casts blame on the Washington Post for bringing it up, and on anyone who thinks the dates matter at all.

Maybe the Cuban word for "weenie" is more appropriate.

(And yes, I know Spanish is the language of Cuba.)

25. Does that mean Rubio is an
Anchor baby. Or are those only from Mexico? LOL! The Repukes would DEMAND Obama resign if his parents did what Rubio parents did, and then lied about it for years, and then claim it was a innocent mistake.

39. I have a good friend whose parents fled the Batista regime for political reasons.
She talks often about feeling unwelcome in the Cuban community, even being made to feel she's not legitimately Cuban-American. This asshole should have shared her experience. The only difference is that my friend and her family are honest about their history. :grr:
