Perry opposes Confederate license plates in Texas
Source: MSNBC/AP

Texas Gov. Rick Perry said Wednesday he opposes his state allowing specialty license plates featuring the Confederate flag — despite his past defense of the historical value of Confederacy symbols.

The Republican presidential hopeful was in Florida for a fundraiser and told Bay News 9's "Political Connections" and the St. Petersburg Times that, "we don't need to be opening old wounds."

-----

It was the first time the governor has publicly commented on the proposed plate, with his office saying previously it was a matter for the board.

-----

But it was a departure from Perry's past opposition to NAACP-led efforts to remove two plaques with Confederate symbols from the Texas Supreme Court building in Austin 11 years ago.

6. I have lived in Georgia my entire life...
and folks down here are still bitter over the Civil War, or to them "The war of northern aggression!"LOL! It can be really funny when for example almost everyone in Georgia claims to have had ancestors who's property was ransacked or there Great Great Great Grandmother was raped by Sherman's troops...But when they tell you where their relatives lived almost all of them lived no where near where Sherman was. It is almost like a badge of honor for them to say crap like that!

The not so funny part is when you hear Republicans in power who want to repeal the 14th Amendment so they can go back to doing what they want to whatever group of people they want to...Especially homosexuals & non-Christians! Folks like Ron Paul are a good example of this kind of BS! It is always framed as "State's Rights".

10. Good
Texans don't need that abomination on their license plates. That flag should be burned by Dem activists anywhere they see it.

I don't care which Party.

Lincoln was, after all, a Republican. (Lord, how I hate to admit that.)

He's not exactly the frontrunner.

15. Well, He's Toast
He better like being governor of Texas, because with that type of statement he's never getting the nod as GOP candidate.

That won't sit well at all with the radical right.

20. He'll hedge this shortly
by saying that what he said yesterday was "his personal opinion" but he will "let the people of Texas decide" or some other such nonsense that these slimy snake-tongued bigots usually utter when trying to equivocate a position.

22. It won't matter. As he put it, he made the mistake of participating in the debates.
And his performances have turned everyone off, even most of the Republican nutters who had prayed for him to enter the race.

Another flip flop at this point is the last thing he needs. (We all remember how much Republicans hate political flip floppers.)

As it is, if the flag flies on state buildings, he was before the confederate flag before he was against it. And he's a secessionist. And he was a Democrat most of his life. And he can't articulate a thought to save his life.

Surely, even Republicans can't be that stupid.

29. Has he said anything about the Christian ones?
They say "One State Under God" and then go on to depict three Xtian crosses, with nary a Star of David, dharma wheel or (Allah forbid!) crescent in sight.
