Legal action will be taken to evict protesters camped outside St Paul's Cathedral, The City of London Corporation has announced.

Supporters of the Occupy London Stock Exchange protest set up tents in the churchyard on 15 October and have vowed to remain there "as long as possible".

A corporation official said it was left with no option as protesters had refused requests to leave.

All of our media only has it on twitter from the last 10 minutes or so as I write. Decision only just made,

edit to ad - yours was the right one. They almost beat the BBC to it in posting it - 2 minute gap. :)

That also confirms the church is taking action on its own behalf too which had previously been denied.

3. A 'corporation' removing people from a 'church.'
Perverse to say the least.

4. The 'corporation' is the local authority for the City of London, the ancient square mile of the city
See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/City_of_London_Corporation

It's a non-democratic anomaly - the Corporation executive is elected, but City businesses get votes as well as residents, and they dominate it (relatively few people live in the area - it's mainly financial offices). So this is effectively the local council removing people from the roads and pavements; which might be OK in some circumstances, but I think the protest should be allowed to continue, since it is not, I think, causing harm.
