ICC in ‘informal contact’ with Saif al-Islam Qaddafi over surrender
Source: Al Arabiya News

The prosecutor for the world’s top war crimes court said on Friday informal contact has been made with Saif al-Islam Qaddafi, the fugitive son of former Libyan leader Muammar Qaddafi, in order to arrest him and bring him to trial.

The International Criminal Court (ICC) charged Qaddafi, Saif al-Islam and Libya’s former intelligence chief Abdullah al-Senussi with crimes against humanity for the bombing and shooting of civilian protesters in February.

Abdel Majid Mlegta, a senior military official of Libya’s National Transitional Council, told Reuters on Wednesday that Saif al-Islam and Senussi wanted to surrender to the ICC in The Hague because they felt unsafe in Libya, Algeria or Niger.

A NTC source said on Thursday Saif al-Islam wanted an aircraft, possibly arranged by a neighboring country, to take him out of Libya’s southern desert and into ICC custody.

2. Just between us...
This is a scumbag who deserves a dose of the same treatment he was so eager to give others. I hope he is found, charged and jailed for a long, long time.

3. They'll have to murder him too or the London School of Economics goes down
with him. I forget who the US counterpart was, it could be Harvard Business School.

4. From Wikipedia...
From http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Saif_al-Islam_Gaddafi (emphasis mine)

In 2008, Gaddafi was awarded a PhD degree from London School of Economics, for a thesis entitled "The role of civil society in the democratisation of global governance institutions: from 'soft power' to collective decision-making?"<12><13> Examined by Meghnad Desai (London School of Economics) and Anthony McGrew (University of Southampton), among the LSE academics acknowledged in the thesis as directly assisting with it were Nancy Cartwright, David Held and Alex Voorhoeve (the son of former Dutch minister Joris Voorhoeve). Professor Joseph Nye of Harvard University is also thanked for having read portions of the manuscript and providing advice and direction.<14><15> In a later investigation by Channel 4 News, they found that 6% of the 93,000-word thesis was copied from other sources.<16> Furthermore, allegations abound that Saif's thesis was in many parts ghost-written by consultants from Monitor Group, which pocketed $3 million per year in fees from Muammar Gaddafi and whose ranks include Robert Nye, who is thanked in the paper.<17>

I think PhD plagiarism is outside the remit of the ICC.

6. But Saif's contacts in the West went right to the top
and included heavy investors or LSE and Harvard Business School wouldn't have had anything to do with him.

7. Unless the fee the alleged PhD ghostwriter demanded
was one or more assasinations, it really isn't a concern of the ICC.

The International Criminal Court ... is a permanent tribunal to prosecute individuals for genocide, crimes against humanity, war crimes, and the crime of aggression.

This is why it's *probably* the safest place for him right now; I'm sure he'd be tortured to death pre-trial for overdue library books in Libya (or caught in crossfire?).

9. Um, the ICC won't off him, either NATO will or the "rebels" will.
Like his father, there's no way he can be taken alive because he knows too much.

8. That's actually pretty funny
Don't think that'd be the basis for the charges, but who knows?

The sub-genius must have slack, so thanks!
