TRIPOLI, Libya -- Libya's interim prime minister on Sunday confirmed the presence of chemical weapons in Libya and said foreign inspectors would arrive later this week to deal with the issue.

"We would like to assure you that the new Libya will be a peaceful Libya and that it is in our interest to have no weapons in Libya," he told reporters.

6. We Will Soon Know
The fact that Gaddafi did not use any of these weapons in an attempt to stay in power is enough for me to want to see more before really commenting. If the reports pan out I would suspect Russia rather than Iraq, as others have suggested.

13. So this looks like he's repeating the 4 day old news
Which everyone thought so unsurprising that it didn't even make it on to DU:

26 October 2011 – The United Nations remains committed to supporting Libyans as they build a new framework for their country, a top UN official said today, stressing that transitional authorities should act swiftly to respond to the North African nation's most pressing needs, such as organizing an electoral process and establishing public security.

“With Sunday's declaration of liberation, the clock has started running on commitments the National Transitional Council (NTC) has made in its constitutional declaration,” Special Representative of the Secretary-General for Libya Ian Martin told the Security Council during a briefing this morning.
...
Mr. Martin also voiced his concern for the large amounts of weaponry left by the ousted Qadhafi regime, which include chemical weapons and Man-Portable Air Defense Systems (MANPADS).

4. NK may have been helping Libya with nuclear tech years back. There's also Abdul Qadeer Khan of Pak
...istan. Given it was 2005 and Bush administration officials were making the charge, highly suspect.

If the report out of Libya is true, two possibilities and neither good.

5. Terra, terra, terra!!!
So this is how it's done. We should fight all of our wars where we're looking for WMD this way. By not looking for them. As in this case -- which is the most likely reason why somebody found them. Wonder how much they'll be charging us for them?

Of course I suppose next they'll be telling us that ''some of those scary nuclear weapons are..... missing.'' And heaven forbid -- anybody could have them. Even the Sharia Islamo-Muslims could get their hands on them. And you know we've got a lot of other s enemies out there too. Enemies who hate us for our freedums. And they could be used anywhere at anytime and we must protect ourselves from them. We have to stop them at all costs! We must do it for the children.

So they'll be needing a few more of our rights to insure our safety. Don't worry, they won't be damaged or get dirty or anything like that because they'll keep them wrapped-up nice and clean and unused. Like always.

- Gee, and I guess we'll be needing your Social Security money for more bombs after all, granny.......

9. I am sure you wouldnt be holding such opinions
If a bomb went off in new york. It is serious business, nuclear weapons. They exist, there are loose ones out there (mainly in russia and the old soviet states) and..... I dont know. I find it really hard to not get physically sick over someone fofooing the danger of nuclear weapons in unknown hands.

Sure, whatever, it is a convenient excuse for neo-conservative actions. But it is not a made up threat.

16. It's not a completely made-up threat, but way over-hyped.
Edited on Mon Oct-31-11 08:13 AM by Celefin
If nuclear weapon handling and delivering was as easy as it is usually implied, -something- would have happened long since.
It doesn't only need specialists to build a warhead but also to handle it.

On a side note... you must be physically sick all the time. Or do you really know in whose "hands" the "West's" nuclear weapons really are. More specifically, who has a say in when and where to use them. As of now, our own governments scare me a lot more than some hypothetical mad terrorist that would probably die of radiation poisoning long before he ever got his holy bomb anywhere. THEIR madness is on display 24/7.

Anyway. Yes it isn't completely made-up. No, I don't think you should be too concerned.
