UPDATED: 3:08 pm EST November 18, 2011

BOSTON -- Massachusetts state officials say just before the end of Mitt Romney's term as governor, 11 of his top aides purchased their state-owned computer hard drives, and the Romney administration's e-mails were all wiped from a server.

The chief legal counsel for Gov. Deval Patrick tells The Boston Globe that Romney administration officials had the remaining computers in the governor's office replaced just before the Democrat took over in 2007.

Romney tried to ignore questions about the report during a Manchester campaign stop on Friday, only saying that staffers followed the law.

When asked if he thought politics were involved in the information's release, he laughed, "Politics? In a presidential campaign?"

4. Why do elected officials get away with this, but if you work at a Corp, you don't
I've been called by investigators and email auditors about emails I sent years ago

All for good reason

But since Shrub, this has been SOP for elected officials

16. I was asking myself the same question
as I was reading this. Is this really legal? Who for instance determines the price of a state-owned hard drive? If I work for the state, and like the state-owned car I've been using, do I get to "buy" it after I leave office?

And aren't there laws against deleting publicly owned e-mails?

Somebody has got to have the backups for this stuff. You wonder what was happening, for the Romney people to be so determined to cover their tracks.

10. In this case, Massachusetts voters who replaced Romney with
Obama friend, Deval Patrick, first black governor of Mass in history, two years before Obama won in 2008.... now Romney wants the run the Birth Certificate time machine on Obama once again, this time only two years... not 40+... claiming Obama had something to do with Deval Patrick making this fact an issue.. when it was a few months before Obama declared for presidency.
