Kerry takes a spill from bike
http://www.boston.com/news/local/massachusetts/articles/2004/05/02/kerry_takes_a_spill_from_bike/

Democratic presidential candidate John Kerry took a spill from his bicycle during a ride Sunday afternoon, but he was uninjured, campaign officials said.

Kerry was riding with Secret Service agents at about 1:30 p.m. through Concord, a quiet, suburban town about 18 miles north of Boston, when his bike hit a patch of sand and he fell, campaign officials said.

"He's fine. They took the bike into the bike shop and he went home," said Kerry campaign adviser Michael Meehan.

Kerry had returned to Massachusetts, where he has a home in Boston's posh Beacon Hill section, for a break from the campaign trail. It was not immediately clear on what road in Concord he was biking on Sunday.

2. Concord is north of Boston?
Seems to me I used to drive west on Route 2 to get to Concord.

And it's not like he fell off a Segway. :)

3. Sand and bikes definitely don't mix
I ride in a bike club in FL and the lead guy in the pace-line is responsible for yelling "SAND" when sand patches on the road are sighted.

There is no excuse to wad up due to road conditions. Scan. Identify. Predict. Decide. Execute. It works.

5. Everybody falls when the ski. Everyone falls off a bike once in
a while.

I've noticed that when Kerry falls, it alwasy makes the news.

it's the medias way of saying that if you're going to try to use your active lifestyle as a campaign strategy, we're going to make you pay for it when we get the chance.

Nonetheless, the skiing and windsurfing pictures are worth millions of votes and he shouldn't stop. This is a fair price to pay.

43. I've done it
Hit a patch of sand and fell ass over teakettle.

Male cyclists are generally in terrific shape -- I know some guys in the Midwest who are in their 70s and even early 80s and still riding. Unfortunately, there are Americans unsophisticated enough to consider cycling a "sissy" sport.

8. "posh" ??!!
I guess Republicans all live in humble neighborhoods, right?

BUSH'S PIG FARM HOME IS 10,000 SQUARE FEET!!!!

The big difference is that Kerry lives amongst educated, intelligent people and Bush wouldn't feel comfortable there.

31. If Kerry keeps wearing Biker shorts and using words like "flummoxed"
he will play right into the eliist-quiche eatin' liberal image repukes are painting of him. Hey, Biker shorts doesn't bother me, I re-read Madame Bovary as an adult and still can't kill a spider. But it is not very NASCAR.

32. Bike shorts and Quiche and "flummoxed" make one an "Elitist"?
How come I never feel very "Elite", then?

If the obverse is to eat fatty shit and drink a gallon of beer every day, wear goofy-looking hats with the name of truck or farm equipment companies on them, refer to the last legally elected President as "Klintoon", and end every sentence with "So help me Earnhardt!", I'll pass, thankee veddy much....

33. Exactly - "flummoxed"????? give me a break - and these are the same people
who rant about speaking English. Well speak it then - at least don't shout "eliteist!" when someone else does. I think Americans want an articulate president - but if the media screams "elitist!" everytime someone uses the English language correctly, we are going to continue to get verbal trainwrecks like Bush. Listen to Tony Blair sometime and tell me you don't wish we had a president who would talk like that. Sheesh!

38. Bwaaahahahaha - he shouldn't say flummoxed ...
he should say "hornswoggled", as in "Well, Mr. Premier, I'll be hornswoggled!" Yeah, that's what I want - a President that goes and confers with world leaders using the vocabulary of (but without the wisdom of) Jed Clampett.
