Wisconsin: Radio ads aimed at swaying Democrats' votes
Journal Sentinel Inc.

Madison - Business groups launched radio ads Tuesday to bludgeon Senate Democrats into voting for spending controls on local governments, but the Senate Democratic leader predicted that Gov. Jim Doyle's veto of those controls will stand. ---

Doyle called on Republican leaders to finally "have the vote" and said he remains "reasonably confident" his veto will stand.

"I believe senators will stand up and realize that we cannot devastate our public schools, we can't harm our basic local services, and we can't cut off our ability to grow and have economic development," the Democratic governor said.

"In the end, people will realize this for what it is - it's a two-bit little gimmick by people who got us into this (deficit) mess," Doyle said, referring to GOP lawmakers. ---
