Civilian accused of killing ‘doing fine job’

MICHAEL SETTLE, Chief Political Correspondent May 06 2004

THE US civilian accused of killing an Iraqi prisoner was still at work yesterday and doing a "damn fine job", according to his employers.

Executives from Virginia-based CACI International complained that they had still not been informed by their client, the US defence department, that their employee, working for the CIA as an interrogator, was involved in the abuse of inmates at Abu Ghraib jail near Baghdad.

Jack London, CACI president, said: "The fact remains we are simply not able to confirm in any fashion any CACI employee was involved in the abuse at Abu Ghraib prison."

Ken Johnson, the company's president of US operations, added: "The employee questioned is still on the site and still performing the duties there and, by all accounts from our understanding, is doing a damn fine job."

2. "by all accounts"
So, extrajudicial killings are part of the job description? That has been my tentative understanding. I'm surprised to hear it confirmed by one of the profiteers.

4. The whole situation w/Indy contractors is out of control...
The article states there are over 5,000 trigger happy mercenaries roaming Iraq at will. Confiscating id's, randomly arresting civilians, setting up illegal ck points...

Iraq is a walking talking insane asylum.

When is Bush going to OWN up to what he's done?

5. Back the hell up!
WHOA! We are paying CONTRACTORS to do interrogation for the CIA? What is going on over there?????? What is going on with the Bush people? Does any part of the media or even Congress have a clear idea of the costs of this war? Of what we are paying private companies to do over there? Outside of an international war crime, I do believe that contractors are used because they can circumvent the law when abusing and killing prisoners... This is outrageous. If Bill O'Reilley and Rush Limbaugh and Dennis Miller were normal, decent humans.. and patriots (as they claim to be), they'd be screaming their heads off over this misuse of power and money. If only one of them would have an epiphany and realize they are on the dark side now... and expose this war for what it is.. a for-profit venture, and a lawless deathfest.

6. I am so sure this company prefers to avoid inflaming "anti-americanism".
Duh,...like they give a shit about the American people while being first on board the boat of war-profiteers.

Ugh!!!

I just cannot,...even express my dismay at these corporatists (who are, in the wise words of a DU poster, "fascists" in the technical sense of the term, according to the Father of fascism, Mussolini).

7. Well, this suggests both:
(1) what they think 'doing a fine job' is; and (2) what their job is.
