What about apologising for the lies that led to this abuse? the linkage of Iraq with 9/11 and the spurious WMD?

1. So far he's apologized to Jordan and Egypt. How about Iraq?

2. We do NOT know that Bush apologized to Jordan.
He CLAIMED to have apologized to the King of Jordan, and the King did not contradict him. But we don't even know what he apologized FOR. And not only that, if your kid hits Johnny, and then apologizes to his best friend Billy for hitting Johnny, does that really count?

AND, I do not consider either of these statements to be apologies:

"I can't tell you how sorry I am to them and their families for the humiliation," he said. "I'm also sorry because people are then able to say, `Look how terrible America is.'"

The first sentence fails as an apology in a couple of ways. The second is only an apology for getting caught.

4. I get it.
This "apology" stuff has been bugging me today. And the thing is, I"m not even sure Bush himself needs to or should apologize. It just pisses me off that he seems to want to APPEAR to apologize without actually doing it. Having it both ways.

Having said that, I apologize if I appeared snippy in the previous post. :-)

5. No problem. The word parsing is driving us all mad.
He needs to apologize to the Iraqi people on behalf of the government and the people of the United States. He's a coward and won't do it. His base would get mad at him.
