Kerry starts Louisiana courtship
He gears up campaign in state with strong Democratic roots

Saturday, May 08, 2004
By John McQuaid
Washington bureau

WASHINGTON -- Is Louisiana really up for grabs in the presidential race?

A statewide poll done in March showed President Bush leading Democratic challenger John Kerry by 14 points and most early handicapping has put Louisiana in the Republican's column.

But Kerry's campaign says it can win the state in November. It's spending $1 million on television ads in Louisiana and has sent the candidate in for his third visit in a month, with events Friday in Baton Rouge and an appearance to deliver the commencement address today at Southern University in New Orleans.

1. VP candidate
is my guess

Mary Landrieu has shown herself as someone who can win a tough campaign.

Gotta be on "the list" of potentials for them to be spending money NOW in Lousiana.

4. Just the facts
Not just like Breaux. According to ADA, Breaux rates a 45% correct liberal voting record, Landrieu is at 60%. I don't know how many times I see DUers praising to high heavens Olympia Snowe for her voting record, which is at 55%, but can't cut Mary Landrieu a break. She represents a very conservative state!

5. it's not the conservatives that got her elected.....
.....it was ME and other Democrats that gave her the power to represent DEMOCRATS....I don't care how *conservative* Louisiana is...she's there to represent the DEMOCRATS that got her elected and our values...if this is as good as it gets...there's NO wonder we're so beyond screwed!!! :grr:
