Bush's August Trips Focus on Environment
WASHINGTON, Aug. 6 /U.S. Newswire/ -- Environmental issues will be the focus of a large portion of the August trips that President Bush takes from his Crawford, Texas ranch. To date, the President has not made protecting the environment a top priority, but his travel schedule for the next three weeks could reflect a growing political concern. As Republican pollster Frank Luntz noted earlier this year: "The environment is probably the single issue on which Republicans in general -- and President Bush in particular -- are most vulnerable."

The President's Schedule: As of today, these are the scheduled environmental events.

-- August 11: The President will visit Arizona and the area affected by the Aspen wildfire near Tucson. Later that day, the President also will visit Colorado.
-- August 15: The President will visit the Santa Monica Mountains National Recreation Area to speak about conservation issues.
-- August 21: The President will travel to Portland, OR to discuss forest issues.
-- August 22: President Bush will be in Seattle, WA to speak about preserving salmon and their habitat.

2. Speech at 11, Fundraisers at 3 and again at dinner at 6, fly back at 8
And the taxpayer pays.

Or does anyone believe that Bush cares about the welfare of birds, fishes, trees, and folks that live off of these things or near these things?

3. Ummmm, Duh.
"To date, the President has not made protecting the environment a top priority,"
That is like saying Hitler did not make civil rights a top priority.

5. Nauseating!
Maybe he can issue a press release about Rove's involvement in the Klamath Basin water "war" (and the subsequent salmon kill) as proof of his committment to preserving endangered fish.

There's a link to this story at http://www.tidepool.org/

This assumes, of course, that he won't be too busy chopping down trees down on the pig farm to attempt to pronounce the word "riprarian" in that amusing, Koko-the-talking-gorilla-esque patois he affects during the photo-op.

Odd, isn't it - Chimpy's getting all moist-eyed and caring about the environment in the middle of the Great European Heatwave and the resulting anxiety (justified or not) regarding Earth's climate.

Did the weather news these days trip the Rove-O-Meter? You make the call!

11. Hey! At least Koko is sincere when she communicates!
I bet George lies a lot more than any of the primates that have been taught how to sign.

That would probably get him beaten up by the lead silverback, in the wild.

6. Maybe Reagan wasn't the only actor as pResident after all....
Bush has probably had more photo ops and read more cue
cards on subjects he really doesn't believe in than
Reagan did.

Bush is going to push his 'Clear Skies' and 'Healthy Forests' initiatives, which are both pure doublespeak.

8. Makes me sick
He's done more to harm the environment than any president I can think of. And yet he's always out on these 15 minute photo-ops talking about how important the environment is. Does any believe this crap? Are the American people that dumb? (I guess I already know the answer to that one.)

10. Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.......

Bush is good for the environment like Hitler was good for jews, gypsies and gays.

Except that Bush aggressively LIES about his 'commitment'

this will make a nice rant for Guy James (assuming he doesn't go off the air due to lack of support. 20,000+ internet listeners. $15 last week. Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr..............

16. this is beyond belief!
what can he say to possibly put ANY positive spin on his mis-administration's record on the environment????

And in Portland and Seattle, can't they summon massive protests? Aren't they very environmentally sophisticated out there?

What hubris! I hope this Spin Cycle REALLY falls flat.

20. He picked several hotbeds of resistance!
We can give him a warm welcome. I'm pretty sure Tucson and Seattle will too, and CA if they're not too hyped up about Ahnold.
