Iran Says It Won't Give Up Nuke Program
http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&cid=540&ncid=716&e=6&u=/ap/20030806/ap_on_re_mi_ea/iran_nuclear

TEHRAN, Iran - Iran vowed Wednesday not to surrender its nuclear power generating program, as U.N. experts met with Iranian officials in an effort to arrange unrestricted inspections of its nuclear facilities.

"The Islamic Republic of Iran will not give up nuclear technology as a basis for legitimate power, " state television quoted President Mohammad Khatami (news - web sites) as telling Iran's most senior officials.

Khatami said Iran had no desire for nuclear weapons, as the United States maintains, "because we cannot use such weapons based on our Islamic and moral teachings."

His comments at a meeting with Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and the country's top military and political officials came as a three-member team from the International Atomic Energy Agency met with government officials to try to arrange unfettered inspections of Iran's nuclear facilities.

1. Why on earth would they?

The Bush Doctrine means that if you are a small country, and god forbid if you have oil, the ONLY way you will be safe from the BFEE stormtroopers is to have WMD's and be willing to use them.

This is making us safer....how?

We all know how junior will deal with this one, 'eh?
Why won't junior talk to North Korea, a little one on one?

So we know he won't talk to Iran.

4. Man, as horrific as that sounds, Sagan, I completely agree
By knocking off Saddam (as horrible as he was and is) when the whole world KNEW that it was a grotesque Stalinist/Hitlerian charade, he has left the small oil-possessing nations with no choice.

Pursue nukes or risk being the Emprie's next target.

And of course, when you pursue nukes (as long as you don't actually have them), you will become the Empire's next target.

Typical Bush stratagem that the Democrats should be quite familiar with. No matter what you do, you will be in the sights of the Imperial Family of Amerika.

5. Now is the time to get the nukes built and tested too
While we have all of our forces throughout the world chasing ghosts. I suspect NKorea will test one by the end of this year. Iran will test one by the end of next year.

2. Bush AXIS OF EVIL
Ok folks, we got Iraq, Iran, and North Korea...

Let's attack Iraq, the weakest, to demonstrate to the others that they really need to speed up their nuke programs so that they can keep us from attacking...

So, now we got NK and Iran sppeding up their programs, worked perfectly, we certainly showed them now didn't we?

Did I mention, these people are MORANS:)

6. quite the hyperbole propaganda headline
The word "nukes" typically only refers to weapons; this headline sounds like they won't stop making nuclear weapons. Though the article states they are keeping their nuclear power tech. Seems to me somebody in Bush Co. got this headline added

8. well, they will eventually
or they at least want to have the shortest possible technical leap if they decide to build weapons.

I do think that the character of every oil producing state to be pessimistic about the future of oil production plays a role there also, the only people who think the spigot is going to run forever are GW Bush's cronies.
