As of Friday, May 14, 775 U.S. service members have died since the beginning of military operations in Iraq (news - web sites) last year, according to the Department of Defense (news - web sites). Of those, 565 died as a result of hostile action and 210 died of non-hostile causes. snip

Since May 1, 2003, when President Bush (news - web sites) declared that major combat operations in Iraq had ended, 637 U.S. soldiers have died — 456 as a result of hostile action and 181 of non-hostile causes, according to the military's numbers.
