1. Packed committee - Breyer, 4 rePub appointees, Rehn's aide.
Rehnquist named Justice Stephen Breyer (news - web sites), a Clinton appointee, to chair the panel.
<snip>
Other members of Rehnquist's committee are Judge J. Harvie Wilkinson of the 4th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals (news - web sites), Senior Judge Pasco M. Bowman of the 8th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals and U.S. District Judge Sarah Evans Barker of Indiana, all Reagan nominees; U.S. District Judge D. Brock Hornby of Maine, named to the bench by the first President Bush (news - web sites); and Rehnquist's top aide, Sally M. Rider.

2. Props to the Old Fascist
While I am a staunch supporter of judicial independence and a believer that the judiciary should avoid caving in to public pressure. Issues involving conflicts of interest are too important to just be ignored.
For this, and only this, I'll give Rehnquist two thumbs up.

6. "Lip service" is probably right
One Dem appointee and 5 repugs
What do you think their findings will be?

7. No doubt. Rehnquist should have chosen a bipartisan panel.

I agree that this was something that desperately needed to be looked into. And the Supreme Court has an obligation to render decisions based on legal finding and not partisanship or friendship.

The positive side of this investigation to me, even if cheesy and slanted, I hope is that more issues of Haliburton/Cheney abuse will be made public. Like the 911 meetings, even tainted and biased, had the effect of bringing forth information that had the effect of general mistrust for the Bush administration.

8. They selected our president
and v. president last time, wouldn't that make it a conflict of interest to rule on anything the president and vice president does?

9. Scalia, however, has still not recused himself?
This is lip service and the lips are chapped.
