Bush Rolls Out Operation Comeback
Betsy Berlin is angry. "I don't know what (President) Bush is talking about when he says this is a strong economy; this economy is getting worse," says Berlin, 44, a self-described "domestic goddess" and registered Republican from Ambler, Pa. "There are job layoffs, prices are rising." Oh, and one more thing: "I'm a proud American, but this Iraq (news - web sites) war puts a bad taste in my mouth." Come November, this Bush voter plans to switch to Democrat John F. Kerry.

Alarmed about defections of people like Berlin, the White House is launching a massive political offensive aimed at convincing an increasingly skeptical public that the Administration is on the right track. Most important, Bush must demonstrate that he has a coherent plan to turn around an occupation of Iraq that has badly damaged his standing in the world and with voters at home.

But he must also convince war-weary Americans that the economic recovery is real, despite their concerns about skyrocketing gas prices and a middle-class squeeze. Facing dire polling numbers, the White House believes its challenge is a communications problem, while most voters see the domestic and international concerns as real. "There's a feeling that something is very wrong," says independent pollster Dick Bennett. "It's going to be very difficult for the Bush campaign to come to grips with it until they acknowledge what people are feeling and change course."

Edited on Tue Jun-01-04 06:25 PM by dweeb
:hi:

What's creepy about all of this is that I vaguely remember Syphillus Bush thinking the same thing: It's a communications problem. They didn't think their message was being heard.

It'll be interesting to see how this shakes out.

5. If their message was being heard (or reported)
Bush would lose the upcoming election by 95 percentage points.

These idiots are so delusional, they have absolutely no clue.. and they will lose in November.

27. Same shit, different Bush!
Poppy says the exact same damn thing about his '92 campaign, even said it again as recently as last week.

He honestly thought his economy was good; he just couldn't get the people to see it his way!?!

6. We have a dual economy.
For those who got Bush tax cut the economy looks good. They are making more money. For the rest of us things are not so good. That is the conservatives dream. A wealthy ruling class that lives well and a working poor that supports it.

People are beginning to see what Edwards was talking about.

8. Operation "comeback"?
But, but, but, I thought Lil George was our wildly popular wartime president, beloved by all, scourge of terrorists everywhere! What does he need to "come back" from when he's never made a mistake, never miscalculated, never erred, and never lost his clear, moral vision for the country and the world? If his numbers are slipping, perhaps it's because this country and this planet are irretrievably lost to his clear, moral vision.

In which case, I'd say that we don't deserve another four years of George W. Bush!

11. This story is tragic
because it illustrates how completely the media abandoned its responsibilities during the bush presidency. Anyone who has been willing to make the tiny effort to supplement the spin of the bush shilling mainstream hoes with a little real journalism has known for three and a half years what's just beginning to spark Betsy Berlin's dim bulb.

Even more pathetic is the media's willingness to keep shilling even though they apparently know the entire administration has been one giant photo-op from day one; they just keep playing the charade.

Check out what CNN is doing today. Acting as if Bremmer didn't prove to the world yesterday that Iraqi "sovereignty" falls short of even puppet-state standards, reporting Chimp's bald faced press conference lies dead straight, and playing along with the terra fear PR roll out as if it's real.

I hope they spend all their time trying to convince the public that they should be feeling good because CEO compensation continues to rise, while working people's wages are flat at best and many of the high value jobs are shipped overseas. They're going to find that to be a hard sell.

30. There’ll be no friggin’ comeback….
If the media puts this front and center to the American public….it’s all about presentation…

DJ Iraq's $119.4B Cost Dwarfs Spending On Some Govt Pgms

WASHINGTON (AP)--Even by Washington standards, the $119.4 billion that
President George W. Bush and Congress have provided for the first two years of
the war in Iraq is real money.
Though a tiny fraction of overall federal spending, the figure is huge in
other ways. It dwarfs the $100 million that could hire 2,500 more airport
security screeners or the the $1 billion that would let 160,000 more low-income
families keep federal rent subsidies, Senate Democrats say. Or it could reduce
the runaway U.S. government deficit.
The $119.4 billion total, compiled by the White House Office of Management and
Budget, is the administration's most comprehensive tally of the war's financial
costs so far. Of the total, $97.2 billion has been for military operations,
$21.2 billion for rebuilding Iraq's economy and government, and $1 billion for
U.S. administrative expenses there………….

If not used for war, the money could take a healthy bite out of the
government's runaway annual deficits, which are expected to set a record this
year - exceeding $400 billion. The $119.4 billion is four times this year's
federal spending for biomedical research, 14 times what Washington will spend to
clean the environment, 26 times the FBI's budget.
The total would also be enough to hand every Iraqi a check for $4,776 - about
eight times that country's average income.

They don't believe in democracy. They believe in monologue.

Under their concept of the Glorious Leader, the absence of public fear or groveling means they just look for a new way to spin.

33. You gotta love that this group is deserting him
The pessimism is particularly pronounced among workers earning $50,000 to $75,000 a year -- a bloc that usually leans Republican. Now, by 2 to 1, that group says the economy would improve if Kerry won, the poll found.

Hell, I even had fun at the office of my very wingnut dentist last week. This is a guy who had a Toomey sign in front of his office. He's had it with big spender Bush and the Iraq war. While he'll probably not vote Kerry, I get the feeling that with his boy Toomey losing the primary, my wingnut dentist will probably sit out the vote.

can convince people things are getting better is to continue to lie and lie and lie. It often works for them, but this time the citizens are beginning to see the ugly and hard truth. Operation Comeback, what a joke.
