Stolen propane trucks turn up near Laredo
http://www.chron.com/cs/CDA/ssistory.mpl/front/2604342

Two propane-delivery trucks that were stolen from a San Antonio gas company over the weekend were found today in South Texas, police said.

The trucks were found on Highway 359 two miles east of Laredo, San Antonio police spokeswoman Sandy Gutierrez said. She did not know whether the trucks were still carrying the explosive fuel when they were found.

A spokesman with the FBI in Laredo did not immediately return a telephone call seeking comment and no one from the Webb County Sheriff's Department was available to speak with The Associated Press.

The theft had raised fears of what could happen if terrorists got hold of the propane.

4. manhattan was on full alert (!)
with homeland security and all manner of other armed agencies, packing ak-47s or whatnot, on nearly every corner, keeping an eye out for propane tankers with texas tag.

presumably, the plan was to shoot the tanker so it blows up in the middle of manhattan before the tanker can blow itself up in the middle of manhattan.

sheesh.

7. Strange that the police 'didn't know' whether they still contained fuel.
It seems to me that if they were still full, they would have said so.

I wonder how many regular propane tanks a truck load would fill up?
