The killing of the Medecins Sans Frontieres personnel in the northwestern province of Badghis on Wednesday was the worst attack on the aid community in Afghanistan since U.S.-led troops overthrew the Taliban in late 2001.
"For the time being, our activities will be suspended nationwide," MSF said in a statement. "In coming weeks, we will analyse this event in depth, but for the moment, our priority is to take care of those most affected by this tragedy."
MSF is a private, medical and humanitarian organisation funded mainly through donations from private individuals. It has been operating in Afghanistan for more than two decades.
