UN envoy calls Bremer a `dictator'
With all the other big news today, this pales in comparison, but it's still interesting.

UN envoy calls Bremer a `dictator'

By Liz Sly
Tribune foreign correspondent
Published June 3, 2004

BAGHDAD -- UN envoy Lakhdar Brahimi acknowledged Wednesday that the U.S. had severely constrained his ability to influence the structure of Iraq's new government and described the chief U.S. administrator in Iraq as a "dictator."

snip----------

Brahimi hinted he had not been given a free rein in his choices for the 31-member Cabinet, a president and two vice presidents, and said that he had been "under a lot of pressure."

"I'm sure he doesn't mind me saying . . . that Bremer is the dictator of Iraq," Brahimi said. "He has the money. He has the signature. Nothing happens without his agreement in this country."

snip----------

"Why is there insecurity? Why is there . . . .this insurgency?" he asked. "I think it's a little bit too easy to call everybody a terrorist. I think if you find out that there are people who are not terrorists, who are respectable, genuine Iraqi patriots, you must find a way of talking to them."

5. Can they slime Brahimi and still get a new UN resolution?
or can they go ahead and slime him causing the new UN resolution to fail and then blame the UN ? (all for domestic consumption)

9. Its ALL for domestic consumption
As long as Pat Robertson and his mini me can close close their eyes real tight and tell the faithful about how the UN works against the US, all will be well with al-queda, otherwise known as the Base.

2. Then why is Brahimi just another puppet?
He could have gone ahead and named a truly independent, anti-occupation government that reflected Iraqi public opinion. Sure, the US could have then reneged, but his hands would be clean--now, Brahimi is complicit in occupation.

4. Brahimi is not a happy camper
He now realizes he was simply used by the Bushies to provide a veneer of UN credibility, while getting the US-friendly interim government they wanted.

He should be more vocal about it.

6. He didn't have the brains at the time to figure this out?
He should have crowed at the time when something could have been done. A little late isn't it?

7. I think people have a hard time accepting
just how deeply cynical and manipulative the Bush administration is. It's not a matter of brains so much as simply realizing and accepting that the US -- formerly the "good guys" of the world -- is now run by truly evil men.

11. People really just don't get it, yet,...about how corrupt/crooked,...
,...and capable of evil-doing that the BFEE-backed, freon neocons truly are. Worse, they are actually in power of this country.

8. If he thinks Bremer is a dictator just wait until he meets Negroponte.
He'll be looking back on Bremer's time as the good old days.

from bad to worse it will go....
