June 4, 2004 — BAGHDAD (Reuters) - Four U.S. soldiers were killed when their vehicle came under attack in eastern Baghdad Friday, bringing the number of Americans killed in action since the invasion to 600, the U.S. military said.

to downplay the real casualty numbers? Last I read the number was closer to 800+. :-(

KIA requires death on the scene. If the soldier later dies at a hospital, he's not a KIA.

Also, if your Humvee hits a land mine and rolls over breaking your neck, you are killed in a car crash and are not a KIA.

The statistic for wounded survival is 98%. So multiply the 5,000 injured by 2%. 100 more senseless deaths. So the number is likely closer to 900+.

until I came into lbn, I was wondering though who in the fuck would believe six hundred dead. When I saw underpants, I thought well, its probably a joke, he knows better than that.
Trouble is this isn't a joke and some people would buy 600, even though they're told repeatedly that the number is closing in on 1000.
