Kerry Says He Was Joking About VP Choice

John Kerry (news - web sites) told a Detroit radio station on Friday he'd name his running mate "in a matter of days," throwing the Washington rumor mill into high gear. Later in the day, he grinned when told that his interview was taken seriously.

"All you have you do is listen to it," Kerry said aboard his campaign plane. "It was plain (that it was a joke). Don't ever write about me being dour and sober and somber."

"There is no announcement imminent," Kerry spokeswoman Stephanie Cutter said. "And we won't have more to say on the subject until Senator Kerry makes a decision on who is the best possible running mate."

7. I disagree
he's doing fine. He can wait.

Too much is happening to Bush right now... Kerry should wait 'til closer to the convention.

9. I think he should wait, too.
Did anyone see Cuomo on TDS last night? He talked about Bush running against Bush at this point and why should Kerry interfere with that? I agree.

Right now, Kerry is a mystery to the opposition--he's keeping them off-guard and they really don't know how to go against him, so they're opting for vague generalizations.

I think he'll reveal more of himself as it gets closer to November--it will then be fresh on everyone's mind as to what his platform is--and Bush will have lost the opportunity to pound him, his platform, and the veep candidate for x number of months.

Good strategy, to me.

12. Yes I agree ~ Kerry is running a VERY Smart campaign right now
I also agree with Cuomo about how Kerry should approach his military thing. He was asked to kill for his country. And he did He discovered while doing so that he would never want Americans to do so again except as an absolute last resort. That was why he protested and still feels the same today. Cuomo can be brilliant but then again he can be awful dull. No one ever accused him of being stupid though.

21. I like the words you use here
Yes, his government told him to go Kill and he found out he did not like it...

I think Kerry is right now coming across as the nice guy. I like his ads that have started here in Virginia. They are of a very nice Man. Very different than * who is a maniac and uses faith like a marketing AD and not as reality.

Bush is running against Bush right now.
And naming a VP at the convention would actually help hype the convention which would be really nice....

I like Kerry's Freedom Bird too!

20. Ann Richards said basically the same thing last week on Larry King...
...Kerry doesn't need to do much right now, $hrubco is shooting itself in the foot almost on a daily basis. Best think for Kerry & Co. is to just stand back and watch the excitement.

$hrubco is held together by ignorance, fear, intimidation and strong-arm politics. Every day their power lessens as people in the country wake up to the reality of gee-dubya and friends. And folks, it's not a pretty picture.

15. Please, please, please can we just stop this now
He will not be naming a running mate until the convention. Not only is this traditional but it also will dramatically increase interest in the convention and in the party in general. It will increase media buzz and general viewership as the momentum builds. So you have been now informed that this will not be happening until then. Please no more of this endless speculation about when.

Who however is another question!
