Reagan 'behind East Timor genocide'
As posted on http://news.tvnewslies.org

President Ronald Reagan's administration remains morally responsible for the deaths of tens of thousands of East Timorese, human rights groups have asserted.

While tributes to Reagan - who died on Saturday after a long battle with Alzheimer's disease - have flooded in from former Soviet satellites in Eastern Europe and other US allies, in East Timor reactions to his passing have been tempered by his role in supporting Jakarta's occupation. ....

1. This is certainly true,
but Reagan was not the only president to support the wholesale slaughter in East Timor. Ford and Carter also lent diplomatic support and military aid (illegal) to the butchers.

3. They make him seem like a saint
People drool over Reagan. He was an ACTOR! Of course you are going to be charmed by him. It is a show!

I think there were many great things about him, but give me a break!
He ran an administration with felons galore! No mention of this on TV though.

5. Rehnquist was Nixon's baby
although he was made chief justice during Reagan's second term.

Reagan's additions to the court were O'Connor, Scalia and Kennedy-- all of whom sided with bu$h in bu$h vs. Gore.

6. Doesn't Carter get a lot of the blame for this, as well?
He did continue to arm Indonesia as the whole genocide got rolling.

7. Let's not forget
The assault on the marine barracks in Beirut, the formation of the death squads in El Salvador, Nicaragua, Honduras and Guatamala, not to mention fixing the election in 1980. Yeah, he was quite a guy.

8. And we wonder why they hate us so much.
The price we have paid for "winning" the Cold war is steep.
Was support for the brutal regime in Indonesia really necessary?
