You're not going to like this. You shouldn't speak ill of the dead. But in this case, someone's got to.

Ronald Reagan was a conman. Reagan was a coward. Reagan was a killer.

4. Well I said yesterday he was mean. and----
Yet even Dem voted for him. I took my name of the Republican voting list when he ran as I knew I could never vote in that party with a man like that. I finally gave up on the new mean GOP, as the party of my father was gone. Sick old men who liked war were not for me. I have never looked back. I may not last these next few days as we watch the GOP try and make him a Saint. He was ill when he was President and every one knows it.

I was thinking the same thing, in fact discussing that with someone this weekend.

Awesome read! Thanks!

10. Ouch....
But he is correct in his assessment.

I have no remorse for Reagan's death. I am concerned that the fools in the government who believe that Reagan was a god will now try to name all kinds of things after him, change the one dollar bill to have his picture on it, build huge monuments to him, and declare a Ronald Reagan day....all on my dime.

11. He's absolutely right
And Ronnie lived a long, pampered life.

Much longer than many whose lives he ended too soon.

12. BRAVO GREG PALAST!
If there is a Hell, then Ronald Reagan, all of his ilk, in particular his stepson Michael, all have a slow spit waiting for them, with the charcoal just right for a slow broil.

Fuck Reagan. And by the way, Fuck all of these Neocon rePuke bastards slapping his name (or Bush 41's) on anything that will sit still long enough to have some grinning little rePuke paint it on.

16. The truth and nothing but the truth so help me God!
I remember Reagan. In the early 80's he put me out of work for 3 years. During his term Pot dried up and became hard to find while cocaine became cheep. I saw a lot of decent people who couldn't find Pot get hooked on cocaine and become low-life's. The eight years of Reagan is where America turned nasty. Good Riddance indeed!

17. Good stuff!
This should help bring the Reagan Democrats under our ever growing big democratic tent. Is Palast going to make an appearance at the Boston inauguration and perhaps give a speech in prime time?

18. One irony I do appreciate
All government workers will get a paid federal holiday this Friday to celebrate the man who launched the biggest ongoing shafting of federal and union workers. And we all know it very well, not a wet eye in the house.

Why not, to be mischievous and lighthearted, maybe shake some out of their melancholy brooding, suggest we make the anniversary of his death a national holiday, paid leave and all?

But I'd wait for a polite moment to bring it up.

I thought some of our posts here were a bit over the top, but Palast, writing from the safety of Bush-hating Britain, really stretched the personal connection of Reagan the Great Delegator to individual instances of harm- which unfortunately you could easily do to any President. I would save some that invective for the hands on murderers who hid behind Reagan's smile and are screwing us over bigtime now. Regan was and especially now, is irrelevant except as the poster child of the Grand Illusion. As usual the Bushes who as much as anyone(especially if Hinckley was their boy) with the corrupting of Reagan's administration are still, still getting off scot free.

And might I point out how much worse it still could be if instead of a
phony puppet at least half the nation can see through, someone even more gifted and pernicious came along. We still give some benefit of an outrageous, supra ambitious puppet like Arnold or a charismatic dyed in the wool conservative like McCain. This shows there is lot more to responsibility than a movie star "forcing himself" upon the nation. Our own schmaltzy political attitudes and disunity have brought us to the insane, humiliating pass.

19. Locking
There's already a thread in GD about this. Also, it is more a political commentary than latest breaking news. Sorry.
