Al Qaeda Warns of Attacks on Western Airlines
DUBAI (Reuters) - A statement purportedly from al Qaeda militants in Saudi Arabia warned Monday of new attacks on U.S. and Western airlines, installations and areas frequented by Westerners.

"All compounds, bases and means of transport, especially Western and American airlines, will be a direct target for our coming operations in the near future," said the statement, posted on a pro-al Qaeda site on the Internet.

It asked Muslims to keep away from Americans and other Westerners to avoid falling victim to an attack by the Islamic militant network led by Saudi-born Osama bin Laden (news - web sites).

"We also warn security forces and guards of Crusader (Western) compounds and American bases and all those who stand with America, its agents... and the tyrants of the Saudi government, and urge them to repent," said the statement, signed by al Qaeda's Organization in the Arabian Peninsula.

5. LOL! If CNN would only report, "Officials state the threat is minimal,
considering Western Airlines folded years ago." That would have the "terrists" scratching their heads!

26. I really hate being called a "Murkin."
And, yes, you have the "right" to say it and I have the "right" to be offended. It is offensive. Or, maybe you're speaking about "those" Murkins? There are some good ones, you know. Me, and some of my best friends are Murkins. I bet you're a Murkin, too. I hope so. If not, then calling us Murkins is even more offensive, isn't it? Kind of like when you're Black, you can use the "N" word, so being an American makes it politically correct to use the "M" word?

I don't think so.

it just goes to show - they probably don't even need to do anything - just throw words at people and disrupt society....

8. Same website as Berg video?
CAIRO, Egypt - A new statement purportedly linked to al-Qaida is threatening attacks on Western airliners.

The warning appears on the same Islamic Web site where a video showing American Nick Berg's murder in Iraq was posted last month...

http://news.bostonherald.com/international/view.bg?articleid=30949

Erm, didn't they say they'd shut that site down? The site only a couple of media networks managed to get the video from before it disappeared?

11. A simple question
How hard would it be for Ashcroft to put up his own "evil-doer" web site? Judging from his behavior in the last few weeks, I think that "Holy John" is quite capable of such mischief.

He just needs to get the word out to his buddies like Reynalds, Hagmann and Quayle and they'll be sure to take care of it for him.

Schedule of Terror Warnings: (When you are most likely to see a terror warning.)

Monday-Tuesday: Terror Warnings in the form of a news brief or news crawler. No specific OFFICIAL is credited, just the originating office or department. Warning is vague and non-specific. Advice to the public: Be vigilent, but don't worry-go shopping.

Monday-Wednesday: A video, tape or letter from Bin-laden or related terrorist group is released. Always accompanied by the disclaimer which questions the validity of the video, tape or letter. Receives a bit more 'air-time' and replayed 'ad-nauseating'. Warning is vague and non-specific. Advice to the public: Be vigilent, but don't worry-go shopping.

Wednesday-Friday: Ridge, Ashcroft and/or Mueller appear before cameras to announce the Terror Alert/Warning. Receives more air-time and hype. Regular programming may be interupted for the announcement. May contain charts, photos and other graphics.

This is followed by "experts" giving commentary/analysis throughout the weekend news cycle. Buzzwords such as "Chemical", "Biological", "Dirty Bombs" are sprinkled throughout the news report and analysis.

Warning is vague and non-specific. Advice to the public: Be vigilent, but don't worry-go shopping. Notify law enforcement if you see something suspicious.

Saturday-Sunday: Ridge, Ashcroft and/or Mueller appear before the cameras. Your regular program is interupted. The announcement is brief, with assurances of more information to come. Chemical, Biological, Dirty Bombs, Planes, Trains, Subways and ports of entry frequently listed.

The weekend announcements are the most likely to result in a change of the Terror Alert Color. Some questions may be taken, but no real answers are given.

Advice to the public: Be vigilent, but don't worry-go shopping. Notify law enforcement if you see something suspicious.

15. Tell me something.
If 'Al Qaida' was planning some big attack would they not go to extremes to keep it secret? Why all of a sudden are they coming out with these warnings saying what to watch out for? I thought they enjoyed surprising us with something unexpected.

Unless, they just want to do something to an airliner and come out saying "Ha ha! We told you so and your President did nothing to stop us."

I don't know I just think it is awfully strange how all of a sudden they are broadcasting where their next attack will be when it seems to me they would be going to extremes to keep intelligence from finding out what they've got in store...

17. yeah, this kind of goes against the idea of terrorism
unless there is no real hijacking plot, and all they want to do is to scare people and slow ticket sales.
