UN Inspectors Find Iraqi Missile Parts in Holland
UN Inspectors Find Iraqi Missile Parts in Holland
By Evelyn Leopold

UNITED NATIONS (Reuters) - Equipment relating to missiles and has other possible weapons uses has been spirited out of Iraq for recycling in scrapyards in the Netherlands, U.N. inspectors said in a report released on Monday.

In Iraq, a number of sites which once contained equipment that could be used for biological or chemical weapons, has been emptied and dismantled since May 2003, according to the report to the U.N. Security Council.

"A number of sites which contained dual-use equipment that was previously monitored by U.N. inspectors have been systematically taken apart," said Ewen Buchanan, spokesman for the New York-based inspectors. "The question this raises is what happened to equipment known to have been at there.

"Where is it now? It's a concern," Buchanan asked.

2. Bite your tongue. I've been considering trying to make Holland my new
country. They recently adopted a new constitution that reads like my wish list. I know someone whose there now who says it seems to be heaven on earth. The most free country on earth.

3. "dual-use" ... "monitored by U.N. inspectors"
"dismantled since May 2003" ... isn't that the date of "Mission Accomplished"??

5. Can someone explain
to me why inspectors were working in Holland? Is this routine or did they have a reason to look there? I don't understand.

10. Following leads
Ritter and the UNSCOM inspectors were back and forth to Russia several times to confirm that Russian missiles had been transported to Iraq. It stands to reason that if stuff was transported out of Iraq, they'd follow to see if it was true and what it was.

11. ahhh
I see. Did Holland know it was receiving this type of material? If so, would not Holland have had a responsiblity to let someone know? I guess it doesn't really matter, but for some reason this intrigues me. And how large would this be, size wise? How could they get it to Holland. And where they found it, what is that like? I picture like a junkyard for cars, but I know that my mind is working with things I have seen and am familiar with ... it is so limiting.
