Kerry Pays Respects to Reagan
Edited on Tue Jun-08-04 07:42 PM by NewYorkerfromMass
I am posting this for a number of reasons:

No. 1. The freeps can't stand this and I LOVE IT!
No. 2. Read Kerry's thoughtful compliments to both Reagan AND GHW Bush!!!

"I didn't agree with a lot of the things he was doing, obviously," Kerry said of Reagan, whom he called a "very likable guy." But he added that he got along well with the Republican, was able to work with him and visited the White House a number of times during his two terms.

"I met with Reagan a lot more than I've met with this president," Kerry said.

The Democrat also said he had more meetings with George H.W. Bush during his one term than he has had with President Bush.

"I liked his father very much. I like his dad. He's a very good guy. He used to write notes. I have a number of notes from him. He's very thoughtful," Kerry said.

We have one hell of a candidate in John F. Kerry.

17. Why, that's impossible
Because Rush played an old sound clip of Kerry stating that he fought against Raygun's illegal war and so, therefore, Kerry hates Reagan and is trying to politicize Raygun's death. :o

I know its true because Rush said so. :o

2. read on that other sight.....
that Kerry took a photographer so he could use it as photo op. then complained that he showed up at all. can you believe it, he's damned if he does or damned if he doesn't.i thought it was a very statesman like thing to do.

4. What Other "Sight"
Hmm. The only "photo op" I've seen is Arnold and Maria signing the remembrance book.

3. VERY nice dig at the chimp.
Kerry isn't taking the Whole week off.

He's good.

"I met with Reagan a lot more than I've met with this president," Kerry said. "

6. Brilliant Move
You can always tell when the trailer park crowd at Freak Republic starts shrieking about Kerry, that he must have exhibited tremendous class and done something that the American people will respond favorably to.

This was a genuine, heartfelt, and astute move. It has tremendous value, symbolically, as it shows Kerry rising above the rank partisanship of the caterwauling rightwingers. In short, it is politically effective, exhibits a charitable and unifying spirit, and demonstrates enormous leadership qualities. It gives another very good glimpse into Kerry's character.

No wonder they're going nuts over this at Freak Republic. Kerry's looking more and more like a honest to god President.

10. What's Classy?
I'm not sure what is meant by "classy". Perhaps someone can explain how paying homage to Reagan, the reactionary union buster and supporter of terrorists, is somehow classy and no less than brilliant. I honestly don't understand that.

12. It's a way of recognizing his good intentions and spirit
which most Americans identify with, without editorializing on how horrible and misguided his actual manifestation of it was.

13. One Definition of Class
Is when a presidential candidate is able to put aside partisan differences and pay respect to the memory of an ex-leader. And when said presidential candidate is able to pull it off gracefully, without rancor, and with real sincerity, it generates good will and displays confidence and generosity of spirit.

Speaking purely politically, these are things we want in our standard bearer, as these are qualities that win elections.

I have no problems with anyone who *isn't* running for President being brutally frank about some of the horrors of the Reagan era. I share many of those sentiments.

But, our standard bearer, the man who can rid this country of the the fraudulent monster currently inhabiting the White House, should take great pains to be humble and measured and respectful. These are traits that endear a politician to that great, swarming mass in the middle that elects Presidents. And Kerry, thankfully, is exhibiting these traits with increasing frequency and grace.

19. Because it's good politics.
If he'd lambasted Reagan, he'd lose votes among everyone except for self-absorbed one-percenters. Like most people with 3 or more functioning brain cells, he'd rather choke down a few compliments to RayGun and send Chimp back to the ranch that mollify dim bulbs who just don't have the stomach for politics.

23. Class because Kerry was
respectful of a former dead President, he gave an honest compliment without being a hipocrite with a bunch of flowery sickening lies. Kerry also in a respectful way got a dig in at the pResident in thief. ;-)

26. By "classy" they mean he's showing why he can win.
Too bad if you have a problem with that.

I know there's been some rudeness here, but we're just the peanut gallery. As a professional politician, he was taking the high road. He did not endorse Reagan's policies but found something complimentary to say.

And he managed to get in a dig against the current "president".

24. Freeper tinfoil:
Edited on Wed Jun-09-04 07:14 AM by NewYorkerfromMass
Here's a freeper take on the whole thing:

"Shortly after the death of President Ronald Reagan, Senator John Kerry announced that he was going to put his campaign on hold for about a week. I rarely agree with anything said by a Democrat, but I thought that Kerry's decision was classy.

Naturally, I should have known better! When a politician from the party of pimps, whores, and welfare brats makes a statement that seems reasonable, you can be sure that there is probably another motive. Kerry apparently learned his lessons well from the trio of Clinton, Clinton, and Gore.

Instead of "paying his respects" in honor of President Reagan at the end of the week, in the Capitol building, where I believe he is "employed," the media-hungry Senator Kerry flew to California for a photo opportunity. To be sure, in Washington, Kerry would just be another member of Congress, but in California he was a senator in a room full of "regular people."

The death of President Reagan is obviously a newsworthy event, and with good news coming from, of all places, the United Nations, Kerry would not have received much attention from the news crews had he not gone out west.

Maybe I am a simpleton or just a partisan Republican, but if someone is "not campaigning" why does he need to fly to the west coast for some publicity on Tuesday when he could pay final respects a couple of days later at his own workplace? Because Kerry is a whore first, a politician second, and an American last!"

http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1150331/posts?page=5#5

Now maybe this idiot didn't know Kerry was already in LA for his daughter's graduation from film school:

"...Kerry, a Massachusetts senator and the probable Democratic presidential nominee, was in the Los Angeles area for the graduation of his daughter Alexandra, 30, from film school. Soon after arriving, he made the 50-mile drive from the airport to the suburban library. News reports of hours-long traffic jams on the Ronald Reagan Freeway leading to the library had threatened to scrub Kerry's visit."
