NDP targets rival parties' ties to Bush

PRINCE ALBERT, SASK. - The NDP will air ads attacking Prime Minister Paul Martin and Conservative Leader Stephen Harper for buddying up to U.S. President George Bush.

One ad "is to contrast the direction that Mr. Martin and Mr. Harper will take Canada with the U.S., in contrast with Mr. Layton," said Brad Lavigne, the party's director of communications.

The ad also features newspaper headlines on private health care and on the Liberals entering talks with the U.S. on missile defence, both of which the NDP strongly opposes.

"Both Paul Martin and Stephen Harper want Canada to have more private health care," the voice-over says. "Jack Layton believes in improving public health care with innovation, not privatization."
