Little Love For Bush At U.N.
President Bush has worked well with friends and poorly with allies, it could be said. But this June, from the shores of Normandy to Sea Island, Georgia, Mr. Bush is making concessions in an effort to bring the old friends, of Old Europe, back to the side of U.S. foreign policy.

Publicly, it's working. The U.N. Security Council unanimously passed a resolution supporting the handover of sovereignty to the interim Iraqi government on Tuesday, as world leaders met in Georgia at the G-8 summit of leading industrialized nations.

But in the corridors of the United Nations, people are skeptical, if not downright displeased, with current U.S. efforts to revive relations.
...
Although they will not say it for attribution, those randomly interviewed want Americans to deny Mr. Bush four more years in office. They expect a rekindling of diplomacy, of statesmanship, if Sen. John Kerry becomes president. They have lost all trust in the Bush administration.

1. Well... but they did bend over for Blair/Bush in Iraq. And actions
count more than words.

2. I have been surprised at how quiet they have been about
the fact that they would love to have * kicked to the curb.

They know * will use it to his advantage to get the public to "prove to foreigners" that they can't tell the US what to do.

4. All this grumbling at the U.N. is pure bunk. They sold Kerry out.
I think the G-8 leaders, Schroeder, Chirac, and the rest secretly support Bush while publicly acting hostile. If they are so upset with the conduct of the American president they too have an obligation to speak out. It's admirable that they supported the U.N. resolution, acting responsibly even when baby George acts like a child, but they should be aware they are giving him a huge diplomatic victory that he will then turn around to use to help get himself elected.

5. This makes perfect sense and would be natural
The other nations send intelligent thinking people to the UN. Unlike the USA.

6. bush and blair may have gotten their prized "resolution" but...
what, in real terms, changes? No country has volunteered troops to go as yet, the bombs are still going off, care agencies aren't not going back because the US cannot provide security. To me, they gained nothing but an empty victory, good for sound bites but little else.

They have lost all trust in the Bush administration.
Hmmm most Americans are starting to feel the same way. Why is it we are always behind the rest of the world in most things?

the assumption (if not secret assurances) that Bushco is on the way out. In other words, they have agreed to the power shift in the recent Iraq resolution because they've been promised a 'powershift' in the U.S. as well.
