2. Scientology has many fronts and people should be wary, but...

...I am also concerned about encouraging the government to somehow regulate them. In Germany, I have heard that Scientologists are barred from state employment. That's wrong, I think. Why shouldn't scientology be considered another church? Certainly many others share silimar traits to them.

Scientology should not be sneakily introducing their beliefs to children in public schools veiled as drug abuse information. I do think we have the right to stop them from doing that.

But they are involved in shady business dealings, suing former members for "copyright infringement" and harassing, legally and otherwise, anyone who diagrees with them.
There was even a woman who was starved to death in a Scientology house.
There are many books by former members of the cult who were in the upper levels. They attested that Scientology was mostly a scam, a moneymaking business. And their highest priority was keeping that information from the public and authorities.

If Scientology was actually a religion instead of a cult/bussiness intent on subverting governments and society then I would understand your alarm but Scientolgy is dangerous. So are the Moonies they need to be "regulated" as well.

I personally am not religious but I can plainly see the difference between what these groups are doing and faith.

4. I have several good friends who are scientologists

and one of scientology's main thrusts right now is that modern psychiatry is out of control...especially as evidenced by all the children who are on the ritalin-type drigs. This is the drug abuse they are talking about.

And it's not just about drugs. They have big banners all around one of their centers in LA that say "PSYCHIATRY KILLS!"

It's a cult, and their unscientific propaganda does not belong in public schools, stealthily or otherwise.
